Job Overview:
The South Sudan Project Director, STRIDES is responsible for leading and directing the implementation of an anticipated Activity aimed at enhancing global health security and addressing polio priorities in South Sudan. This role encompasses a wide range of managerial responsibilities, including overseeing personnel, managing budgets, and ensuring the effective execution of project activities. The Project Director will serve as the primary liaison with local government and other global health security partners, and will be tasked with developing and implementing annual work plans, monitoring and evaluation activities, and technical and financial reporting. The position requires a strong focus on creating a safe and equitable work environment, promoting a harassment-free culture, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The South Sudan Project Director will be responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating project activities to meet established goals and objectives within specified time frames and budget constraints. Key responsibilities include reviewing project proposals, establishing work plans and project teams, developing funding proposals, and providing guidance and training to project staff. The Director will also participate in strategic development, maintain partnerships with stakeholders, and ensure the induction of project staff into the organization's values and standards. Additionally, the role involves supporting performance management and professional development for direct reports, setting project goals and budgets, and leading coordination of resources across business units.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of project management theories, concepts, and practices, along with excellent project management skills. Strong oral and written communication abilities, influencing and negotiation skills, and critical thinking capabilities are essential. The ability to motivate and collaborate with others, as well as build positive relationships with local communities and government officials, is also required. The role demands a strategic mindset and the ability to address complex problems effectively.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's Degree or its international equivalent in fields such as Civil Society, Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Environment, Gender, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology, or Youth is required. A Project Management Certification is preferred, indicating a formal recognition of project management expertise.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in project management principles and practices, including at least 5 years of program management experience. Candidates should have demonstrated knowledge and experience in managing human or animal health projects, particularly those related to infectious diseases. Experience with Global Health Security and polio projects is essential, and familiarity with the South Sudanese health context is strongly preferred. Additionally, experience working in insecure or conflict environments and within non-governmental organizations is necessary.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak the language proficiently. Knowledge of additional languages relevant to the local context may be considered an asset, enhancing communication with diverse stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
This position is open to both South Sudanese nationals and international applicants who can obtain legal work authorization in South Sudan, with a strong preference for South Sudanese candidates. The expected hiring range for this role is between USD 60,000 and 80,000 annually, depending on factors such as relevant experience and education.
