Job Overview: The Statistician position at FHI 360 involves supporting the lead statistician in various statistical tasks essential for research studies. This includes drafting statistical analysis plans (SAPs) for both interim and final reports, designing Table, Figure, and Listing (TFL) shells based on the SAP, conducting statistical reviews of data collection forms, and creating specifications for analysis data sets. The role also encompasses analysis programming and the production and review of statistical reports. The Statistician may propose randomization strategies, draft Randomization Plans for senior review, and design randomization programs. Additionally, the position may involve serving as an Independent Statistician for Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMBs) during non-complex reviews. Training staff on BIOS systems and serving as the lead statistician for straightforward studies under guidance are also part of the responsibilities. This role is designed to provide the necessary training for taking on additional lead statistician functions in the future, emphasizing the importance of statistical project management and collaboration within study teams.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Statistician include writing statistical analysis programs using SAS or other statistical software to generate or validate analysis data sets and TFL for statistical reports. The Statistician will investigate discrepancies in data and program code, review completed TFL for accuracy, and maintain accurate program documentation. They will develop analysis data set and TFL specifications, carry out intermediate level statistical analysis, and help draft statistical sections of study reports. The role requires independent work on unblinded interim analyses and managing the timely delivery of statistical services as the lead statistician. The Statistician will also review study reports and manuscripts for accuracy and represent the department on study teams, ensuring that statistical project management is effectively executed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a solid working knowledge of intermediate statistical methods applicable to observational and randomized studies. Proficiency in statistical software packages, particularly SAS/BASE, macro, and data-step programming is essential. A solid understanding of scientific and ethical principles in research study design and analysis, including randomization principles, is required. Familiarity with industry best practices and regulatory requirements related to statistical analysis and programming is also necessary. The ability to demonstrate initiative, good judgment, and resourcefulness is crucial for success in this role.
Educational Background: A Master's degree (or international equivalent) in statistics, biostatistics, bioinformatics, or a similar curriculum is required for this position. This educational background ensures that the candidate has the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary for conducting statistical analyses in research settings.
Experience: Typically, candidates should have 5-8 years of relevant work experience in the statistical analysis of research studies. This experience should demonstrate growth in the application of basic statistical skills, including planning and conducting analyses. Additional Notes: The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, and is expected to involve less than 10% travel. The expected hiring range for this role is KES 4,333,333 - KES 6,000,000 annually for basic salary.
