Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will support the Operations Support and Logistics (OSL) Egyptian Corridor Team, which is crucial for the delivery of administrative, procurement, supply chain, logistics, and operational support services for WHO’s emergency response operations in Gaza. The role is vital as WHO strengthens its capacity to respond to emergencies in rapidly evolving environments, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of life-saving medical supplies and assistance. The volunteer will work under the supervision of the OSL Lead in Cairo and closely with the Supply Officer and National Officer based in Al Arish, contributing to the coordination and implementation of supply chain and logistics operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will be responsible for various tasks including:
Supporting the reception, transportation, storage, and delivery of essential medical and health supplies from Egypt to Gaza, including tracking mobile and partner-managed stock.
Assisting in the management and monitoring of WHO warehouses in Cairo and Al Arish, ensuring proper inventory control, stock reporting, and operational readiness.
Maintaining operational coordination with partners such as the Egyptian Red Crescent and Logistics Cluster on logistics operations.
Liaising with WHO teams to support cross-border logistics and administrative processes.
Facilitating procurement processes by coordinating with local suppliers and preparing Requests for Price Estimates (RPEs).
Supporting the development of Long-Term Agreements (LTAs) for operational support services.
Assisting with local supplier engagement and operational follow-up.
Supporting the advance cash custodian for urgent operational requests and ensuring timely invoice processing.
Maintaining documentation and preparing reports to facilitate decision-making. 1
Performing other incident-specific supply chain and logistics tasks as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates should possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. They should demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team setting. A commitment to cultural sensitivity and inclusiveness is essential, along with a proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
Educational Background: A degree in logistics, supply chain management, public health, or a related field is preferred. Additional certifications in project management or procurement would be advantageous. Candidates should have a solid understanding of supply chain operations and logistics management principles.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 2 years of relevant experience in logistics, supply chain management, or administrative support, preferably in a humanitarian or emergency response context. Experience working with international organizations or NGOs is highly desirable. Familiarity with procurement processes and warehouse management is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Arabic is highly desirable. Proficiency in additional languages would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This is an international UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is based in Cairo, Egypt, which is a family duty station with good living conditions. The volunteer will receive a monthly Volunteer Living Allowance of approximately USD 2457, along with entry and exit lump-sum payments. Medical and life insurance coverage is provided, including for up to three dependents. The position offers access to training and learning resources through the UNV E-Campus.
