Job Overview: The Health and NutritionCoordinator plays a crucial role in designing and delivering high-quality health and nutrition projects in Zambia, ensuring alignment with both country and sectoral strategies. This position involves providing support and guidance to project staff to ensure compliance with Action Against Hunger and donor guidelines. The Coordinator is responsible for continuous technical and organizational support, capacity building for health and nutrition staff, and representing the organization both internally and externally. The role requires leading the analysis of the health and nutrition context in Zambia, conducting field visits, and engaging in design" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">program design and proposal writing, as well as supporting fundraising and procurement efforts. The Coordinator is expected to be the technical lead in the Health and Nutrition sector, providing strategic advice and ensuring adherence to best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health and Nutrition Coordinator has a comprehensive set of responsibilities that include ensuring timely and quality implementation of ongoing programs, leading the health and nutrition program strategy, and supporting financial and technical implementation. The Coordinator will conduct regular field visits to enhance program quality, supervise the preparation of reports, and manage the Nutrition and Health team effectively. This includes mentoring and developing staff, overseeing recruitment, and establishing a training program to enhance capacity. The Coordinator will also contribute to fundraising efforts by analyzing donor priorities, developing proposals, and identifying local NGOs for partnerships. Additionally, the role involves defining and rolling out the country strategic plan, setting up a robust monitoring and evaluation system, and representing Action Against Hunger in various coordination and technical meetings.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a nutrition-related field, such as MSC Nutrition, Public Health, or Global Health, along with a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition. A minimum of four years of relevant work experience in a similar setting and responsibility is required, alongside at least six years of experience in humanitarian and development contexts. Familiarity with nutrition and health technical approaches, such as IMAM and MIYCAN, is essential, as is experience in capacity building for national teams and working with significant institutional and UN donors. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent communication, writing, and analytical skills, as well as proficiency in English.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as nutrition, public health, or global health, complemented by a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition. This educational background is critical for understanding the complexities of health and nutrition programming and for effectively leading initiatives in these areas.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of four years of work experience in a similar role, with a total of at least six years of experience in humanitarian and development settings. Candidates should have a proven track record in nutrition and health technical approaches, as well as experience in assessment, monitoring, and evaluation. Familiarity with donor procedures and experience in capacity building are also essential.
Languages: Proficiency in English is mandatory for this position. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in the context of working with diverse communities and stakeholders in Zambia.
