Job Overview:
The Senior Rapid Response Officer is tasked with providing technical support and guidance for the implementation of emergency response activities under the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) initiative in Kenya. This role involves directing professional staff and rapid response teams, ensuring that emergency response activities align with approved workplans. The officer will also be responsible for developing training strategies, facilitating capacity-building activities, and preparing reports for donors that highlight achievements in emergency response. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government counterparts and in-country organizations, to effectively respond to infectious disease outbreaks and emergencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Senior Rapid Response Officer will oversee the daily implementation of emergency preparedness and response activities, demonstrating strong judgment in evaluating rapidly evolving situations. Key responsibilities include networking with internal and external personnel, providing input on national guidelines for emergency response, assisting in the development of tools and materials, and leading the creation of emergency response workplans. The officer will coordinate with technical and programmatic teams to ensure compliance with award requirements and FHI 360 policies. Additionally, the officer will support project reporting, gather data for documentation, and assist in compiling technical content for various outputs. The role may also involve troubleshooting and guiding data analysis to support decision-making processes.

Required Qualifications:

The role requires excellent project management skills, the ability to set realistic priorities, and a deep understanding of the external environment affecting emergency preparedness. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is required, and candidates should be able to analyze data and prepare comprehensive reports.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree or its international equivalent in Public Health, Emergency Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of emergency response and public health initiatives.

Experience:
Typically, candidates should have at least 6 years of relevant experience in emergency or rapid outbreak response activities, with significant field-based roles. Experience in leading global health security-focused projects, particularly those emphasizing emergency preparedness and response, is essential. Prior work experience in non-governmental organizations, U.S. government agencies, or private organizations is preferred, especially with USG-funded contracts.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as the role requires excellent oral and written communication skills. Additional language skills may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.

The expected hiring salary range for this role is between KES 4,333,333 to 6,000,000 annually, depending on the candidate's experience and qualifications.
