Job Overview:
The Accountant position at the ITER Organization is a critical role within the Finance and Accounting section, responsible for monitoring and reporting on accounts payable and receivable. The successful candidate will engage in various financial activities, including the verification of invoices, coaching internal stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with applicable tax processes. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining relationships with tax authorities and providing guidance on financial matters. The Accountant will also contribute to the preparation of IPSAS-compliant financial statements and support the overall financial reporting of the ITER Organization. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a groundbreaking fusion energy project, where the candidate will play a key role in ensuring the financial integrity of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Accountant include monitoring and reporting on the accounts payable and receivable teams, training team members on accounting duties related to purchase orders and invoice verification, and managing the e-invoicing tool for efficient invoice submission. The Accountant will ensure sound management of the fixed assets accounting system, oversee fixed asset management, and liaise with suppliers and stakeholders regarding invoices and task agreements. Additionally, the role involves providing support on tax-related matters, supervising tax returns and exemptions processes, and reviewing earmarked fund-related transactions. The Accountant will also assist in issuing monthly budget execution figures and collaborate with stakeholders for the preparation of the ITER’s annual Financial Report. Compliance with IPSAS and internal procedures is essential, and the Accountant will manage the Accounting Manual to ensure data consistency and accuracy.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Master’s degree or equivalent in accounting or finance, or hold a professional accounting certification such as C.A. or C.P.A. Essential qualifications include proven experience in accounting, particularly in construction or public environments, and a strong understanding of financial management tools and techniques. The ability to develop and implement financial processes, prepare financial statements, and manage asset documentation is crucial. Desirable qualifications include training or certification in IPSAS, experience with SAP4Hana, and knowledge of project management principles.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree or equivalent in accounting, finance, or a related field is required for this position. Candidates with equivalent professional accounting certifications (e.g., C.A., C.P.A.) or extensive professional experience in similar roles may also be considered. Additional training certificates in relevant domains can substitute for formal education requirements.

Experience:
The position requires proven experience in accounting, ideally within the construction or public sectors. Candidates should demonstrate a strong ability to utilize accounting tools, manage financial data, and prepare financial documentation. Experience in financial planning, reporting, and analysis is essential, along with a solid understanding of accounting standards and principles. The role may also benefit from experience in project management and familiarity with IPSAS or IFRS standards.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is mandatory for this position. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not explicitly required.

The initial employment contract for this position is up to five years, with the possibility of extension. The selection process aims to fill the current vacancy and create a reserve list for future positions, which will remain valid for two years.
