Job Posting Organization:
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is an international organization that seeks to promote the peaceful use of nuclear energy and to inhibit its use for any military purpose, including nuclear weapons. Established in 1957, the IAEA has a mission to accelerate and enlarge the contribution of atomic energy to peace, health, and prosperity throughout the world. The organization operates in over 170 countries and has a workforce of approximately 2,500 employees. The IAEA's work is guided by its member states and is focused on various areas including nuclear safety, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and the promotion of nuclear science and technology for sustainable development.

Job Overview:
The internship program at the IAEA is designed to provide students and recent graduates with practical work experience that aligns with their academic studies or interests. Interns will have the opportunity to engage with the IAEA's work and contribute to its programs while gaining valuable insights into the operations of the organization. The internship typically lasts between three months to one year, allowing interns to immerse themselves in the IAEA's projects and initiatives. Interns will be involved in supporting the production of a new IAEA reference material, specifically IAEA-494, which involves various laboratory tasks and analytical processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Interns will assist in several key activities related to the processing of reference materials. This includes tasks such as drying, sieving, and homogenization of materials, as well as measuring particle sizes. Interns will also support radiochemical separations using alpha-spectrometry to identify radionuclides present in the samples, including Uranium (U), Thorium (Th), Plutonium (Pu), Americium (Am), Cesium (Cs), and Strontium (Sr). Additionally, interns will contribute to the preparation of a technical report on the reference material, which will involve documenting findings and methodologies used during the internship.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline. It is essential for applicants to demonstrate the ability to work effectively within a laboratory environment and to undertake analytical tasks. Knowledge of radioanalytical or analytical techniques is also required. Strong written and spoken English skills are mandatory, and proficiency in any of the IAEA's official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
Applicants must have completed at least three years of full-time studies at a university or equivalent institution towards the completion of a first degree. Candidates who have recently graduated (within one year) from a bachelor's, master's, or doctorate program are also eligible to apply. This educational background ensures that interns have a solid foundation in the relevant scientific principles and practices necessary for the internship.

Experience:
While specific prior experience is not mandated, candidates should have a foundational understanding of laboratory work and analytical techniques. The internship is primarily aimed at students or recent graduates, so the expectation is that candidates will have some academic exposure to relevant scientific disciplines rather than extensive professional experience.

Languages:
Fluency in English is essential for this position, as it is the primary working language of the IAEA. Additionally, proficiency in any other IAEA official language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, Spanish) is advantageous and may enhance a candidate's application.

Additional Notes:
Candidates must be at least 20 years old and should not have previously participated in the IAEA's internship program. It is also required that applicants attach two signed letters of recommendation to their application. The internship is a full-time position, and while the duration can vary, it typically ranges from three months to one year.
