Job Overview: The internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme at IOM aims to attract talented students and graduates who have a specific interest in areas relevant to IOM's programmes and activities. Interns must be between 20 and 36 years old and should have less than two years of relevant working experience. The internship is designed to support customer service activities, application intake processes, applicant orientation, and internal administrative tasks at the Canada Visa Application Centre (CVAC) in Bolivia. The intern will assist in ensuring efficient service delivery in accordance with IOM and VSS Services standards, while developing professional competencies in client service, administrative migration processes, and document management. Interns will receive and guide visa applicants on CVAC procedures, provide basic information on types of visas and requirements, assist with queue management, and support operational control procedures established by the CVAC.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks including: receiving and guiding visa applicants on CVAC procedures; providing basic information on types of visas and requirements; assisting with queue management and maintaining order in the service area; reviewing documentation submitted by applicants to ensure completeness; assisting applicants in filling out forms at designated terminals; supporting operational control procedures established by the CVAC; organizing files, scanning documents, and assisting with document archiving; and providing support in additional administrative activities and any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be students in their final semesters or final academic year, or recent graduates from fields such as Social Sciences, Humanities, Business Administration, International Relations, Communication, Tourism/Hospitality, or related fields. Working experience in related fields will be considered an advantage. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, E-mail, Outlook) is required. Candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, the ability to organize paperwork methodically, discretion, and a client-oriented approach. A willingness to learn new things is essential, and prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations or in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or having graduated within the last 12 months. Candidates should have a specific interest in, or studies covering, areas relevant to IOM programmes and activities.
Experience: The level of experience needed for this position is minimal, as the internship is targeted at students and recent graduates. However, any relevant working experience in related fields will be considered an advantage. Candidates should be proficient in Microsoft Office applications and demonstrate strong organizational skills and responsibility.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this internship, both oral and written. The proficiency of the language will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments. Knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not mandatory.
Additional Notes: Interns may receive a small monthly stipend depending on experience and location to help offset costs. However, those benefiting from an internship allowance or scholarship that includes financial remuneration or credits for coursework will not be eligible for the stipend. IOM covers interns against occupational accidents and illnesses under the Compensation Plan (CP) free of charge for the duration of the internship. However, IOM does not provide evacuation or medical insurance for non-occupational accidents and illnesses, and interns are responsible for their own medical insurance. Any offer made to candidates is subject to funding confirmation and medical fitness certification. This vacancy is open to Bolivian citizens and applicants with the correct work permit.
