Job Overview: The logistics-officer" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Logistics Officer position at WFP involves overseeing the daily planning and coordination of logistics operations at the Kuajok Field Office. The incumbent will ensure that logistics assurance targets are met, which includes managing commodity accounting and transport operations. This role is critical in supporting WFP's mission to provide effective humanitarian assistance, particularly in emergencies. The Logistics Officer will be responsible for ensuring compliance with logistics management systems, conducting prepositioning exercises for in-kind assistance, and supporting air operations. The Logistics Officer will also engage in data collation and reporting, contributing to operational pipeline planning and the management of logistics projects. Duties and Responsibilities: The Logistics Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Ensuring logistics assurance targets are met at the field office level, focusing on commodity management and accounting.
Overseeing the successful execution of prepositioning exercises for in-kind assistance while pursuing cost efficiency.
Supporting air operations in Wau and supervising logistics operations in Wunrok.
Contributing to the consolidation and preparation of operational pipeline planning and managing supply chain aspects, including documentation and transport services.
Collating data for accurate reporting and key performance indicators to inform decision-making.
Coordinating the development and implementation of supply chain plans for food and cash-based transfers.
Managing logistics projects and operational activities to ensure effective delivery of assistance.
Conducting market analysis and supply chain mapping to enhance local supply chain performance. 1
Leading the procurement process for retailers and monitoring retailer agreements. 1
Supporting capacity building for WFP staff and partners in delivering assistance. 1
Building relationships with logistics colleagues and authorities for integrated food assistance. 1
Participating in emergency logistics preparedness and conducting Logistics Capacity Assessments. 1

Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, Business Management, or a related field. Alternatively, a first university degree with additional years of relevant work experience and/or training may be considered. The position requires strong analytical skills, the ability to conceptualize complex issues, and produce thorough reports and recommendations. Candidates should demonstrate strong initiative, coordination skills, and the ability to lead logistics operations effectively in challenging environments. Excellent communication and negotiation skills are essential, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for the Logistics Officer position include an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or Business Management. For candidates holding a first university degree, at least five years of relevant work experience is required. The educational background should reflect a strong foundation in logistics and supply chain management principles, as well as an understanding of humanitarian operations and emergency response.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of three years of post-graduate experience in logistics or a relevant field for those with a master's degree or higher. For candidates with a first university degree, at least five years of relevant experience is required. Experience in a hardship duty station or emergency operation is essential, along with a background in supply chain emergency preparedness planning and operational risk identification. Candidates should also have experience in managing diverse teams and collaborating with various stakeholders, including government authorities and NGOs.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for this position. A working knowledge of Arabic is considered an added advantage, enhancing the candidate's ability to communicate effectively in the region and with local stakeholders.
Additional Notes: The Logistics Officer position is a fixed-term contract for a duration of 12 months, based in Kuajok, Warrap State, South Sudan. The role is classified at the NOB grade level.
