The mission is funded by various partners, including ECHO, DDC, and FHRAOC, and collaborates with local partners to implement its projects effectively.
Job Overview: The position of Missions involves overseeing and coordinating humanitarian operations in Burkina Faso, particularly in response to the ongoing security crisis. The role requires a strong understanding of the local context and the ability to adapt to the dynamic humanitarian landscape. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the effective implementation of programs that address the vital needs of displaced populations, including access to water, sanitation, hygiene, food security, and livelihoods. The position also entails representing SI in external forums, advocating for the organization's mission, and maintaining strong relationships with national and local authorities. The candidate will need to navigate the challenges posed by the evolving legal framework for NGOs and the increasing demands from donors while ensuring that the organization's interventions remain relevant and impactful.
Duties and Responsibilities: The primary duties and responsibilities of the Missions position include:
Leading the strategic planning and implementation of humanitarian operations in Burkina Faso, ensuring alignment with SI's mission and objectives.
Coordinating with internal teams and external partners to facilitate effective program delivery and resource allocation.
Monitoring and evaluating program outcomes to ensure accountability and continuous improvement.
Engaging with local authorities and stakeholders to foster collaboration and support for SI's initiatives.
Representing SI in meetings with donors, partners, and other humanitarian actors to advocate for the organization's priorities and secure funding.
Managing a diverse team of expatriates and national staff, providing guidance and support to enhance their capacity and performance.
Addressing operational challenges and risks, including security concerns, to ensure the safety and effectiveness of field operations.
Contributing to the development of proposals and reports for donors, highlighting the impact of SI's work and the needs of affected populations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in international relations, development and humanitarian action, political science, or a related field. A minimum of five years of experience in the humanitarian sector is required, with at least three to four years in a similar leadership role. Candidates should demonstrate a proven track record in managing humanitarian operations in high-risk environments, with a deep understanding of local dynamics and relationships with relevant authorities. Technical skills in program management, capacity building, and partnership development are essential, along with a strong commitment to accountability and humanitarian principles.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as international relations, humanitarian action, development studies, or political science. Equivalent qualifications may also be considered, provided they demonstrate the necessary knowledge and skills for the role.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least three to four years in a similar role. Candidates should have experience managing humanitarian operations in contexts characterized by high volatility and security challenges. Familiarity with the specific needs and dynamics of the Burkina Faso context is highly desirable, as is experience in capacity building and partnership management.
Languages: Fluency in French is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Burkina Faso. Additional Notes: This position is a national employee role under Burkinabe law, with a gross monthly salary starting from 2,775,356 CFA, depending on experience. The position includes social and medical coverage for the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director and their family at a rate of 90%. The contract is short-term, with a desired start date of June 1, 2026, and a duration of one year.
