Job Overview:
The Social Media Video Editor position is a vital role within the UNHCR Romania External Relations and Communications team. This position is focused on enhancing the organization's digital communications, particularly in relation to significant events such as World Refugee Day and the 75th Anniversary of the Refugee Convention. The primary function of this role is to produce both short-form and long-form video content that is optimized for various social media platforms. The Social Media Video Editor will be responsible for creating engaging video content that not only supports brand visibility but also fosters audience engagement and effective storytelling. This role requires a creative individual who can translate complex narratives into compelling visual formats, thereby contributing to the organization's mission of raising awareness and advocating for the rights of refugees and displaced persons.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Social Media Video Editor will undertake a variety of tasks aimed at producing high-quality video content for UNHCR's social media channels. Key responsibilities include:
  • Video-editing & production: Editing short-form videos (15-60 seconds) for platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, and X, as well as longer-form videos (1-5 minutes) for YouTube or the UNHCR website as needed.
  • Cutting, trimming, and assembling raw footage to create polished final products.
  • Adding subtitles, captions, and on-screen text in accordance with brand guidelines.
  • Applying colour correction, basic sound design, and transitions to enhance video quality.
  • Creating simple motion graphics, including lower thirds and animated text.
  • Social Media Optimization: Adapting content to meet platform specifications, ensuring videos align with brand tone, visual identity, and accessibility standards.
  • Producing thumbnail images and teaser clips to attract viewers.
  • Preparing existing photo and video content for upload on Refugees Media, UNHCR's searchable online database for multimedia assets.
  • Coordinating with the Communications team to understand project briefs and participating in content planning meetings. 1
  • Following established workflows for version control, file naming, and timely delivery of videos.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Social Media Video Editor position should possess a strong set of qualifications that demonstrate their ability to fulfill the role effectively. This includes proficiency in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools. A solid understanding of social media platforms and their specific content requirements is essential. Additionally, candidates should have a creative mindset with a keen eye for detail, as well as the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Familiarity with motion graphics software, such as Adobe After Effects, is a plus. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while adhering to deadlines are also critical for success in this role.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in film production, multimedia communications, digital media, or a related field is preferred for the Social Media Video Editor position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge and skills necessary for effective video production and editing, as well as an understanding of digital communication strategies.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in video editing and production, particularly in a social media context. Languages:
