Job Overview:
The WASH Activity Manager will be based in Tawila, North Darfur, and will play a crucial role in supporting the emergency response efforts following the outbreak of conflict in April 202
  • This position involves reporting to and deputizing for the WASH Program Manager, leading the implementation of field activities, supervising WatSan & HP supervisors, and coordinating with other departments. The role requires high-quality planning, conducting assessments, reporting, staff training, and preparing technical documents such as Terms of Reference (ToRs), Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), and contracts. The WASH Activity Manager must be able to mobilize quickly and operate in remote, high-risk locations while adhering to strict security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols set by SI. The position faces significant challenges, including a high level of emergency needs, a large volume of activities, and access and security challenges in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Activity Manager will be responsible for leading the implementation of WASH activities in the field, ensuring that all operations are conducted in accordance with SI's standards and protocols. Key responsibilities include:
  • Overseeing the planning and execution of WASH projects, including water trucking, rehabilitation of water points, borehole drilling, hygiene promotion, sanitation construction, and solid waste management.
  • Supervising and training WatSan & HP supervisors to ensure effective implementation of activities.
  • Coordinating with other departments to ensure integrated programming and effective resource utilization.
  • Conducting assessments to identify needs and inform project design.
  • Preparing and submitting reports on project progress and challenges.
  • Developing technical documents such as ToRs and contracts for service providers.
  • Ensuring compliance with SI's security protocols and adapting operations to the evolving security situation.
  • Engaging with local partners and stakeholders to enhance the effectiveness of interventions.
  • Contributing to the development of proposals for funding and resource mobilization.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Water and Sanitation Engineering, Environmental or Water Resources Development, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have formal training and qualifications in Civil Engineering or related disciplines. Relevant experience in deep borehole drilling and development is also required, along with a good understanding of project cycles, implementation, and follow-up processes. Strong organizational and communication skills are essential for this role, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team and under pressure.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Civil Engineering, Water and Sanitation Engineering, Environmental or Water Resources Development is mandatory. Additional certifications or training in project management or humanitarian response would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 0 to 2 years in a similar position. Experience in emergency response and WASH programming is highly desirable, as well as familiarity with the challenges of working in high-risk environments.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international partners. Proficiency in Arabic is considered a strong advantage, as it facilitates communication with local communities and stakeholders.

  • The role is based in Tawila, North Darfur, which is classified as a high-risk environment with strict security protocols in place. The salary for this position starts from EUR 2035 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 750 is provided, along with accommodation costs and travel expenses covered by SI. The organization implements a system of alternating work and time off, allowing for breaks every three months, along with an additional rest day for each month worked. Expatriates are also provided with a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses and essential vaccinations.
