Job Overview:
The Project Associate – SGBV will play a crucial role in the UNDP's initiative to address Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Sri Lanka. This position involves providing technical inputs and engaging with national counterparts within the justice sector to implement a project aimed at ensuring access to justice for victim-survivors of SGBV. The project seeks to empower women, girls, and gender minorities, enabling them to demand better services and hold the justice system accountable. The Project Associate will work closely with various stakeholders, including UNFPA, to strengthen coordination and enhance project delivery. This role requires a proactive approach to project management, ensuring that all activities align with the overarching goals of the initiative.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Project Associate will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Providing high-quality technical inputs on access to justice and SGBV to support effective project implementation.
  • Assisting in the development of Terms of Reference (TORs), agendas, work plans, and project budgets in collaboration with the project team.
  • Reviewing project documentation, including partner reports and assessments.
  • Coordinating with external consultants and stakeholders for day-to-day project management.
  • Organizing meetings, workshops, and technical training sessions with project stakeholders, primarily in the justice sector.
  • Monitoring project implementation and tracking progress against expected outputs.
  • Collaborating with UNDP technical and communications teams to develop advocacy messages and materials.
  • Supporting efficient planning, expenditure tracking, and auditing of financial resources in accordance with UNDP regulations.
  • Performing any other duties as required by the Project Manager.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess strong analytical and communication skills, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. They should demonstrate innovative thinking, accountability, adaptability, and professionalism. The role requires a commitment to respect diversity and promote inclusivity in all project activities. Additionally, candidates should have a solid understanding of the justice sector and SGBV issues in Sri Lanka, along with experience in project management and stakeholder engagement.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, law, gender studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline would be an advantage. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their understanding of the complexities surrounding SGBV and access to justice.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in project management, particularly in areas related to gender equality, human rights, or social justice. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with the Sri Lankan context and the justice sector will be beneficial.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Sinhala or Tamil would be considered an asset, as it would facilitate communication with local stakeholders and communities.

Additional Notes:
This is a national UN Volunteer assignment, and candidates will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The position is part of a Special Programme Initiative (SPI) by UNV, which addresses specific volunteer needs within the UN system. Candidates will undergo background checks and must receive clearance from the United Nations Department for Safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (UNDSS). The role is expected to be full-time, with a focus on delivering impactful results in the fight against SGBV in Sri Lanka.
