Job Overview: The position of Nutrition Technical Officer is crucial for the EpiC MNCH project, which aims to enhance nutrition, neonatal, maternal, and child health outcomes in the Zambezia and Nampula provinces of Mozambique. The role involves working closely with government partners to foster a culture of quality improvement in nutrition services. The Technical Officer will be responsible for planning and implementing nutrition activities in health facilities and communities, providing technical support and training to government and partner staff, and ensuring the quality of care delivery initiatives. This position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery and adherence to national standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Technical Officer will support the Senior Nutrition Technical Officer in ensuring the quality and effectiveness of nutrition services at both health facility and community levels. Key responsibilities include providing technical support to health facilities, planning and delivering nutrition training, and contributing to the development of supervision and guidance systems. The officer will also be involved in monitoring and evaluating nutrition services, ensuring compliance with national standards, and collaborating with project staff to implement service-strengthening activities. Additionally, the Technical Officer will represent the project in provincial-level technical working groups and support data collection and analysis for nutrition indicators.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, or a closely related health field. Preferred qualifications include experience as a nutritionist or public health nutritionist, or as a nurse or midwife with relevant experience in nutrition and maternal and child health. A minimum of 4 years of experience in nutrition, with a strong understanding of public health and maternal and child health programs, is required. Familiarity with national nutrition guidelines and experience in training and mentoring staff are also essential.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as nutrition, Public Health, Nursing, Midwifery, or Medicine is required. Candidates with advanced degrees or specialized training in nutrition or public health will be preferred, particularly those with hands-on experience in nutrition programming.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in nutrition, particularly in maternal and child health programs. Candidates should have experience in supervising program staff and monitoring their performance. Familiarity with the specific context of Nampula and Zambezia provinces is highly desirable, as is experience in designing and implementing training programs.
Languages: Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory, with excellent oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of the local language is considered an advantage, enhancing the ability to engage with community stakeholders effectively.
Additional Notes: This position may require travel up to 50% of the time, reflecting the need for on-site support and collaboration with health facilities and community teams.
