It operates globally, collaborating with 132 UN Country Teams across 162 countries, as well as engaging with national governments, regional bodies, and youth-led organizations.
Job Overview: The intern will be integrated into the UN System Coordination and Accountability section of the UN Youth Office, which is pivotal in advancing the youth agenda through the coordination of Youth2030, the UN Youth Strategy. This role involves supporting the implementation of youth commitments outlined in the Pact for the Future at the national level. The intern will work full-time, five days a week, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The responsibilities will vary based on the intern's background and assigned tasks, providing a comprehensive experience in youth-related initiatives and UN operations.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include conducting research on youth policies and programs, supporting the development of survey tools and data collection, and assisting in identifying good practices and drafting case studies. The intern will also help collate resources, develop tool-kits, and maintain information systems, utilizing digital and AI tools. Additional tasks include preparing briefs and substantive materials on youth topics, creating social media content, and assisting in organizing webinars and high-level events. The intern will coordinate logistics for UN System Coordination activities and provide general administrative support as needed.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent), or be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher). While professional work experience is not required, a relevant field of study is necessary. Proficiency in standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Excel, is required. Experience in youth engagement or related policy programming, as well as in Sustainable Development, Human Rights, Peace and Security, or Humanitarian action, is desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must be students in their final year of a bachelor's degree program, or enrolled in or have completed a master's or Ph.D. program. This educational background should be related to the internship's focus on youth affairs and UN operations.
Experience: While no professional work experience is required for this internship, candidates should have relevant academic experience or coursework related to youth engagement, development, or UN operations. Experience in fields such as Sustainable Development, Human Rights, or Peace and Security is considered an asset.
Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another official UN language, such as French, is desirable but not mandatory.
