Job Overview: The position of Intern for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is designed to provide support in the analysis and delivery of the SDGs, working closely with the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU). The intern will collaborate with various divisions within the Executive Office of the Secretary-General (EOSG) and United Nations Agencies to monitor and analyze global trends related to sustainable development. The role involves preparing analytical reports, background notes, and supporting high-level meetings and events. The intern will gain valuable experience in policy analysis, research, and coordination efforts across multiple thematic tracks, including finance, environment, health, gender, governance, and more. Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will be responsible for providing policy analysis for the delivery of the SDGs, collaborating across different areas of work within the SDU. Key responsibilities include monitoring and analyzing global trends related to sustainable development, focusing on thematic tracks such as finance, environment, health, gender, governance, and more. The intern will support the preparation of analytical reports, papers, and key messages, as well as assist in organizing meetings, events, and summits for senior officials. Specific tasks may include conducting research, drafting reports, and contributing to the implementation of the United Nations Disability Inclusion Strategy. The intern will also engage in initiatives related to SDG data, sustainable food systems, and education, supporting the UN's efforts to accelerate the 2030 Agenda.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in or have completed an undergraduate or graduate program, or be in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level). While work experience is not required, candidates should possess skills and knowledge that will benefit the UN during their internship. Familiarity with standard software applications, particularly MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, is desirable. Additionally, knowledge in report editing, drafting news articles, and social media posts is beneficial. Proficiency in data analysis using statistical software or AI-assisted tools is also desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a background in fields relevant to sustainable development, public policy, international relations, or related disciplines. A Bachelor’s degree or higher is preferred, with a focus on coursework that aligns with the responsibilities of the internship. The educational background should equip the candidate with the necessary analytical and research skills to contribute effectively to the UN's initiatives.
Experience: While no prior work experience is required for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant training, education, or skills that would be beneficial to the United Nations. Languages: Fluency in English is required for this position, as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
