Job Overview: The Education Technical Assistant position is designed to support the implementation of education projects on a day-to-day basis. This role involves assisting in various field-level operations, including direct implementation by NRC and collaboration with partner organizations. The assistant will be involved in activities such as school repairs, the Better Learning Program (BLP), catch-up programs, youth programs, and the distribution of non-food items (NFI). The assistant will work closely with the Education Project Coordinator to ensure that project activities are executed according to the established work plan and standards, while also maintaining effective communication with project participants and local communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Education Technical Assistant include assisting in the implementation of education activities under the guidance of the Education Coordinator. This involves providing support for NRC's school repair initiatives, BLP, youth programs, and catch-up activities, ensuring that all actions align with NRC's quality standards. The assistant will be responsible for maintaining communication with project participants and host communities, monitoring and reporting on project progress at the field level, and updating databases to ensure data accuracy. Regular travel to field locations is required to support education, recreation, and psycho-social support activities. The assistant will also organize and support training sessions for teachers and education personnel, follow up on school repair activities in coordination with the Shelter team, and identify potential partnerships with community-based organizations for psycho-social support and youth programs. Additional tasks may be assigned by the line manager as needed.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Education Technical Assistant position should possess a solid understanding of the education system in Ukraine, particularly in the context of emergencies. Previous experience working in complex and volatile environments is essential, along with the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure. Strong computer skills, particularly in MS Word and Excel, are required, as well as the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Experience in handling procurement documentation, such as agreements and invoices, is considered an asset. Familiarity with the education sector in Ukraine and experience in humanitarian contexts will be advantageous. Candidates should also demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Educational Background: A university degree or advanced degree in education, social sciences, or a related field is preferred for this position. Candidates with relevant educational backgrounds will be better equipped to understand the complexities of the education system and the challenges faced by trauma-affected children.
Experience: The position requires candidates to have prior experience working in the education sector, particularly in Ukraine, as well as experience in humanitarian or emergency contexts. This experience will help the assistant navigate the challenges of working with vulnerable populations and implement effective education programs.
Languages: Fluency in Ukrainian and Russian, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Intermediate English language skills are also required, enabling effective communication with international staff and stakeholders. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset.
