Job Overview: The Country Lead for the RESIslands Project will play a crucial role in the effective and well-coordinated implementation of project activities at the national level. This position requires strong stakeholder engagement, alignment with national priorities, and the strengthening of institutional capacity to manage climate risks. The Country Lead will serve as the in-country focal point for all RESIslands activities, ensuring that project objectives are met while facilitating consultations, workshops, and training events. The role is pivotal in supporting the strategic frameworks and enhancing the delivery of multi-hazard risk assessments to address climate variability and change. The Country Lead will also be responsible for providing local data and input for knowledge products and research activities, thereby contributing to the overall success of the project.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Country Lead will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Stakeholder Engagement: Organizing national-level workshops, consultations, and training events; liaising with various ministries, local governments, civil society, and academia; facilitating meetings to ensure effective communication and collaboration among stakeholders.
Implementation: Providing technical assistance for country-level project deliverables; preparing local field visits and assessments; facilitating logistics for activities, including permits and procurement of services.
Reporting & Monitoring: Preparing timely technical progress reports and documentation; monitoring outputs to ensure alignment with work plans and budgets.
Knowledge Management: Collecting data for use cases and toolkits; facilitating the dissemination of best practices and lessons learned within the country.
Sustainability & Institutional Ownership: Engaging national stakeholders in the preparation and validation of deliverables; ensuring post-project uptake of platforms and tools developed during the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s level) in fields such as Climate Science, Environmental Policy, Project Management, Economics, Social Sciences, Geography, Geoinformatics, or related disciplines. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in climate resilience, institutional development, or project coordination is required. Experience leading donor-funded climate or development projects and working with government entities is highly desirable. Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and reporting will be considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree at the Master’s level in relevant fields such as Climate Science, Environmental Policy, Project Management, Economics, Social Sciences, Geography, Geoinformatics, or similar areas. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of climate resilience and institutional development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in areas related to climate resilience, institutional development, or project coordination. Candidates with prior experience leading donor-funded climate or development projects, as well as those who have worked with government entities at the national or regional level in climate, environment, or risk management, will be preferred. Experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis is also beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory for this consultancy role. Knowledge of French would be considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of project implementation.
Additional Notes: This is a full-time consultancy position that requires professional exclusivity during the contract period. The duration of the contract is expected to be 6 months.
