Job Overview:
The Country Lead for the RESIslands Project will play a crucial role in the effective and well-coordinated implementation of project activities at the national level. This position requires strong stakeholder engagement, ensuring that project activities align with national priorities and contribute to strengthening institutional capacities. The Country Lead will serve as the primary point of contact for all RESIslands activities within their designated country, facilitating consultations, workshops, and training sessions aimed at enhancing climate resilience. The role involves collaborating closely with various stakeholders, including government institutions, civil society, and international partners, to ensure the successful delivery of project objectives. The Country Lead will also be responsible for providing local data and insights to inform knowledge products and research activities, thereby contributing to the overall success of the project.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Lead will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:

• Stakeholder Engagement: Organizing and convening national-level workshops, consultations, and training events; liaising with the National Designated Authority (NDA), AISCC National Focal Point (NFP), and other relevant ministries; facilitating meetings with local governments, civil society, and academia.
• Implementation: Providing technical assistance for country-level project deliverables; preparing for local field visits and assessments; facilitating logistics for activities, including permits and procurement of services.
• Reporting & Monitoring: Elaborating timely technical progress reports and documentation for UNECA and the NDA; monitoring outputs to ensure alignment with work plans and budgets.
• Knowledge Management: Collecting data for use cases and toolkits; facilitating the dissemination of best practices and lessons learned.
• Sustainability & Institutional Ownership: Engaging national stakeholders in the preparation and validation of deliverables; working with NDA and national institutions to ensure the post-project uptake of platforms and tools.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s level) in fields such as Climate Science, Environmental Policy, Project Management, Economics, Social Sciences, Geography, Geoinformatics, or related disciplines. Additionally, a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in climate resilience, institutional development, or project coordination is required. Experience leading donor-funded climate or development projects and working with government entities is highly desirable. Familiarity with qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis will be considered an asset.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (Master’s level) in relevant fields such as Climate Science, Environmental Policy, Project Management, Economics, Social Sciences, Geography, Geoinformatics, or similar areas. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of climate resilience and institutional development.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in areas related to climate resilience, institutional development, or project coordination. Candidates should have prior experience leading donor-funded climate or development projects, as well as experience working with government entities. Engagement at the national or regional level in climate, environment, or risk management is preferred, along with experience in qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Portuguese is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of French would be considered an advantage, as it may facilitate communication with a broader range of stakeholders and enhance collaboration within the project.

The expected duration of the contract is 6 months, and the role involves significant engagement with national stakeholders and institutions.
