Job Overview:
The WASH Assistant plays a crucial role in the implementation of WASH hardware and software initiatives, which include the rehabilitation and construction of water points, water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities. This position requires close collaboration with Relief International's field office management, project, and support staff to ensure that programs are executed smoothly according to approved work plans, budgets, and quality standards. The WASH Assistant will be actively involved in community mobilization, assessments, and training, ensuring that the local population is engaged and empowered to sustain the initiatives. This role is vital in addressing the immediate and long-term water, sanitation, and hygiene needs of communities affected by crises.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The WASH Assistant is responsible for a variety of tasks including:
  • Working under the guidance of the WASH Coordinator to implement all WASH hardware and software activities.
  • Supporting the WASH Officer and team in conducting WASH assessments in targeted areas.
  • Mobilizing communities and relevant government officials for meetings and assessments.
  • Facilitating site assessments and selecting appropriate beneficiary communities.
  • Assisting the WASH Officer in conducting baseline and KAP surveys.
  • Arranging and facilitating the formation of WASH and Water Users committees.
  • Providing training to Water Users committees, pump mechanics, and community hygiene promoters.
  • Keeping records of all segregated WASH beneficiaries' achievements and updating the WASH Officer regularly.
  • Ensuring good coordination and working relationships with local authorities and beneficiaries. 1
  • Mobilizing community participation in project implementation for sustainability. 1
  • Conducting oneself professionally and personally to uphold the reputation of Relief International. 1
  • Reporting daily on all WASH activities and beneficiaries' achievements. 1
  • Carrying out any other duties assigned by supervisors as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Diploma or Certificate in Public Health, Environmental Health, or Water Engineering. They should have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant work experience in the WASH sector. A basic understanding of water supply systems (including boreholes, piped systems, and water treatment), sanitation facilities (such as latrines and waste management), and hygiene promotion practices is essential. Candidates should also be capable of conducting community hygiene education sessions and supporting the construction or rehabilitation of WASH facilities, as well as carrying out water quality testing.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Diploma or Certificate in fields related to Public Health, Environmental Health, or Water Engineering. This educational foundation is critical for understanding the technical aspects of WASH implementation and ensuring effective community engagement.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have 1-2 years of relevant work experience in the WASH sector. This experience should ideally include hands-on involvement in water supply systems, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion activities, as well as community mobilization and training.

Languages:
