Job Overview:
The Field Communications Officer plays a crucial role in leading and coordinating field-level communications, visibility, documentation, and public information activities that support lifesaving interventions in Health, Nutrition, WASH, and related humanitarian efforts in South Sudan. This position is primarily field-based, requiring flexibility to provide communications support across various project areas in South Sudan. The Officer is responsible for ensuring high-quality storytelling, compliance with donor visibility requirements, community-centered messaging, and accurate documentation of program impacts. The role involves close collaboration with Program, MEAL (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning), Grants, and Operations teams to ensure that communications outputs align with donor expectations and humanitarian standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Communications Officer will undertake a variety of key responsibilities, including leading the documentation of program activities, success stories, beneficiary testimonies, and case studies through regular field visits. The Officer will capture photos, videos, interviews, and human-interest stories while adhering to safeguarding and consent protocols. They will develop high-quality communication materials such as briefs, newsletters, situation updates, and program highlights that accurately reflect program impact and humanitarian principles. Additionally, the Officer will ensure compliance with donor branding and visibility requirements, coordinate with Grants and Program teams, and review communication materials to align with funding agreements. They will serve as a focal point for field communications coordination with the country office, provide regular updates to programs on project visibility, and coordinate media engagement as necessary. The Officer will also support program teams in integrating communications planning into project implementation, work with MEAL teams to translate monitoring data into accessible communication products, and assist with emergency response communications during crises. Furthermore, they will maintain organized electronic and hardcopy filing systems for communications materials and support audit and donor verification processes related to communications compliance.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Development, Public Relations, or a related field, with a Master’s degree preferred. A minimum of 3 years of experience in communications, public information, or media within humanitarian or development contexts is required. Candidates should demonstrate experience in field-based documentation, photography, videography, and storytelling, with a strong understanding of donor visibility requirements and humanitarian communications standards. Excellent English writing, editing, and storytelling skills are essential, along with proficiency in local languages. Strong organizational and content management skills, as well as excellent IT proficiency, including MS Office and multimedia editing software, are also necessary. Experience managing social media and digital engagement platforms is preferred, and women are strongly encouraged to apply.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Media Studies, International Development, Public Relations, or a related field. A Master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred, indicating a higher level of expertise and knowledge in the field of communications and public relations.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in communications, public information, or media, particularly within humanitarian or development contexts. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in field-based documentation, photography, videography, and storytelling, as well as familiarity with international donor requirements and visibility standards.

Languages:
Proficiency in English is mandatory, with excellent written and spoken skills required for effective communication. Additionally, proficiency in local languages is essential to engage with the communities served by Relief International and to ensure that communications are culturally relevant and accessible.

Additional Notes:
This is a national position based in South Sudan, and applicants must not have a history of bad records or convictions related to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), Sexual Harassment, or Child Abuse cases.
