Job Overview: The Operations Officer will play a crucial role within the Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory (SIA) team, which is part of the Infrastructure Vice Presidency Unit (VPU) at the IFC. This position is designed for a dynamic and highly motivated individual with expertise in climate and decarbonization strategies, particularly within the private sector infrastructure and natural resources sectors. The Operations Officer will be responsible for advising clients on climate and energy transition strategies, co-developing and implementing decarbonization plans that are commercially viable and aligned with sustainability objectives. The role requires excellent project management skills, business development capabilities, and the ability to handle complex data. The Operations Officer will work closely with various teams within the IFC to deliver innovative solutions that enhance the financial, environmental, and social impact of investments, thereby contributing to the broader goals of sustainable development and climate mitigation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Operations Officer will report to the SIA Climate Advisory Lead and will collaborate with other SIA Team Leads to develop, refine, and implement advisory products and services for clients. Key responsibilities include leading business development for decarbonization products, preparing client pitches, and developing climate mitigation-focused projects that support private capital mobilization. The officer will identify client opportunities, support relationship coordination, and contribute to building a pipeline of advisory engagements aligned with IFC's infrastructure investment priorities. Additionally, the Operations Officer will collaborate with the Strategic Initiatives and Innovation Team to roll out investment and advisory products, identify new market trends in energy transition, and develop tailored proposals for clients. The role also involves providing technical guidance for advisory projects, recommending effective Key Performance Indicators, and maintaining strong relationships with clients. The Operations Officer will mentor junior staff and undertake additional duties as specified by the Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory Manager.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master's degree in environmental sciences, engineering, business, finance, public policy, economics, or a related field specific to climate science or sustainable finance. A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience is required, particularly in working with infrastructure companies on decarbonization strategies and management consulting services focused on climate and energy transition. Proven experience in designing and implementing climate mitigation projects, familiarity with GHG emissions data tools, and a solid understanding of sustainability reporting standards are essential. The candidate should also have strong interpersonal skills to manage relationships with diverse stakeholders and demonstrate a collaborative and proactive approach to project management.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master's degree in a relevant field such as environmental sciences, engineering, business, finance, public policy, economics, or a specific area of expertise related to climate science or sustainable finance. This advanced degree is crucial for understanding the complexities of climate and sustainability issues and for developing effective strategies to address them.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of relevant experience, particularly in the infrastructure sector, focusing on decarbonization strategies and climate transition.
