Job Overview: The Health and Nutrition Officer plays a crucial role in monitoring health and nutrition programs aimed at enhancing the well-being of communities, particularly vulnerable populations such as women and children. The officer collaborates closely with government agencies, partners, and community members to strengthen health systems, promote nutrition practices, and achieve project goals efficiently and sustainably. The role is vital in ensuring that health facilities are equipped and operational, and that health services are delivered according to established guidelines and standards.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Health and Nutrition Officer is responsible for a variety of key tasks, including: providing technical support for the implementation of project activities in accordance with the South Sudan Ministry of Health's Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS); ensuring health facilities are adequately equipped with medical supplies and essential drugs; monitoring health facilities to prevent shortages of essential drugs; managing and supervising health and nutrition activities in Maban; conducting monthly supportive supervision of health facilities and ensuring proper documentation; supporting health staff in adhering to standard procedures for patient diagnosis and treatment; conducting regular monitoring and evaluation assessments to ensure program quality; providing on-the-job training for health workers; assessing health workers' capacity needs and developing training plans; facilitating community participation in health promotion activities; conducting weekly coordination meetings and documenting minutes; ensuring immunization screenings for children and antenatal care for pregnant women; improving community referrals for severe cases; overseeing data collection and reporting processes; compiling various project reports; and performing any other duties assigned by the line manager.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must possess a minimum of a diploma in nursing, clinical medicine, or public health, along with at least two years of experience in a humanitarian setting. Previous experience with UNICEF programs is considered an advantage. Candidates should have basic programming knowledge, including the ability to complete or update indicator tracking templates and draft monthly project reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, is required. A good understanding of the Maban context and the ability to speak Arabic are desired skills. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate leadership skills, integrity, organizational skills, and a goal-oriented mindset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a minimum of a diploma in nursing, clinical medicine, or public health. This foundational education is essential for understanding the complexities of health and nutrition programming in humanitarian contexts and for effectively supporting the implementation of health services.
Experience: Candidates should have at least two years of relevant experience in a humanitarian setting.
