Job Overview: The Environmental Remediation Officer position is integral to the IAEA's Division of Nuclear Fuel Cycle and Waste Technology (NEFW), specifically within the Decommissioning and Environmental Remediation Section (D&ERS). The officer will contribute to various project activities aimed at enhancing Member States' capabilities in environmental remediation. This role involves supporting the development of international guidelines, designing and delivering training programs, and providing technical assistance to Member States. The officer will work under the guidance of the Section Head and will be involved in planning and developing the Agency's program in environmental remediation, leading technical meetings, and evaluating technical cooperation projects. The position requires a proactive approach to addressing environmental remediation needs and ensuring that Member States have access to the necessary resources and expertise.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Environmental Remediation Officer will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: assisting in the planning and organization of meetings and activities related to environmental remediation; supporting the preparation of scopes and identifying participants for meetings; coordinating the preparation of reports and meeting documents; planning and implementing review missions and follow-up activities; providing technical input to mission reports; contributing to the evaluation of technical cooperation projects; assisting in the development of action plans; participating in seminars, workshops, expert missions, and training courses; coordinating collaborative research projects in Member States; and developing technical guidance and recommendations to address the needs of Member States in environmental remediation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science or a related technical or scientific discipline. A Master's degree is considered an asset. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of five years of experience in environmental remediation and waste management or related activities, with at least two years of experience in managing moderately complex operational projects. Experience working in a national or international nuclear organization or institute is desirable. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and knowledge of other official IAEA languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's Degree in environmental science or a related technical or scientific discipline. Additional Notes: The IAEA offers an attractive remuneration package, including a tax-free annual net base salary starting at US $71,335, subject to mandatory deductions for pension contributions and health insurance. A variable post adjustment currently amounts to US $37,166, along with dependency benefits, rental subsidy, education grant, and relocation and repatriation expenses. Other benefits include six weeks of annual leave, home leave travel, a pension plan, and health insurance.
