The Junior Public Health Professional (JPP) Programme is part of the World Health Organization (WHO) in the South-East Asia Region (SEAR), which has been operational since 201
  • The mission of the JPP Programme is to provide young public health professionals from SEAR Member States with hands-on learning and leadership development opportunities within the WHO environment. The program aims to strengthen the technical and management capacities of emerging public health professionals by engaging them in the implementation and monitoring of priority health programs. The WHO operates in multiple countries across the South-East Asia Region, focusing on improving health outcomes and building capacity in public health.

Job Overview:
The Junior Public Health Professional (JPP) will support one of the three technical areas: Access to Medicines and Health Technologies, Global Leprosy Programme, or Neglected Tropical Diseases, Malaria and Vector-Borne Diseases. The JPP will provide technical and programmatic support to SEAR Member States, assisting in the implementation and monitoring of initiatives related to medical devices management, diagnostics, laboratory strengthening, and disease control technologies. The role involves supporting surveillance, monitoring, and data analysis, contributing to evidence generation and operational research, and assisting in the development of digital tools for program monitoring. The JPP will also prepare technical guidance and knowledge products, organize capacity-building activities, and support coordination with WHO Country Offices and other stakeholders. This position is designed to promote equitable capacity building across the region and attract young talent in key public health areas.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Junior Public Health Professional include:
  • Providing technical and programmatic support to SEAR Member States in implementing and monitoring health initiatives.
  • Supporting surveillance, monitoring, and data analysis through the collection and analysis of epidemiological data.
  • Contributing to evidence generation and operational research, including desk reviews and assessments.
  • Assisting in the development of digital tools and information systems for program monitoring.
  • Preparing and disseminating technical guidance and knowledge products.
  • Organizing and delivering capacity-building activities such as workshops and training programs.
  • Contributing to program monitoring and evaluation, including documentation of implementation progress.
  • Supporting coordination with WHO Country Offices and other stakeholders.

  • Performing other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Junior Public Health Professional position include:
  • Age: Below 35 years at the time of application.
  • Nationality: Must be a national of SEAR Member States.
  • Education: Essential - Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical area (MBBS, Bio-medical Engineering, or Bachelor's in Sciences). Desirable - Master's degree in public health or related area, additional certified training, and publications in scientific journals.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of professional work experience, including at least one year at the national or regional level in a relevant technical area. Demonstrated experience in public health program implementation at the field level and at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Junior Public Health Professional position includes a Bachelor's Degree in a relevant technical area such as MBBS, Bio-medical Engineering, or a Bachelor's in Sciences. A Master's degree in public health or a related technical area is desirable, along with additional certified training in the specific technical area relevant to the candidate's application. Publications in scientific journals are also considered a plus.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of professional work experience, which should include at least one year at the national, sub-national, or regional level in a relevant technical area. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in public health program implementation at the field level and must have at least one publication in a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

Languages:
The mandatory language requirement for this position is excellent written and spoken English. Proficiency in standard computer applications is also necessary. While English is the primary language, knowledge of additional languages may be beneficial but is not explicitly required.
