Job Overview: The Quality Technician position at the ITER Organization offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the most ambitious fusion energy projects in the world. The primary goal of this role is to perform quality assurance (QA) activities that support various ITER programs, projects, and process owners in achieving their quality objectives. The Quality Assurance Section, part of the Quality Management Division, is responsible for ensuring independent monitoring and quality assurance activities throughout all phases of the ITER project, from design to manufacturing, installation, and commissioning. Quality engineers in this section play a crucial role in monitoring and auditing compliance with quality procedures during the execution of contracts and processes. The position requires a proactive approach to quality assurance, providing expertise and support to technical staff in all relevant QA matters, and ensuring that quality standards are met consistently across the board.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Quality Technician will carry out a comprehensive set of quality assurance activities, including but not limited to: supporting ITER programs and projects to achieve their quality objectives; assessing processes and procedures to ensure their applicability during QA process implementation; assisting Technical Units in demonstrating compliance with applicable QA requirements; developing quality procedures and supporting process owners in their development; performing quality audits in accordance with approved quality audit programs; identifying deviations and non-conformities, contributing to the effective implementation of Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), and conducting root cause analysis; monitoring quality KPIs and process performance; and contributing to the development and improvement of IT tools and quality processes. The role may also involve additional duties as required, which align with the primary responsibilities outlined.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Quality Technician position must possess essential qualifications, including proven experience in Quality Assurance within the nuclear field or large construction projects in complex international environments. Effective communication skills are crucial, as the role requires propagating QA requirements and processes to various stakeholders in a multi-cultural environment. Candidates should also have experience in managing non-conformities and performing root cause analysis, ensuring timely follow-up and closure of issues. Desirable qualifications include knowledge of nuclear regulation codes and international quality standards, such as ISO 9001, EN 19443, NQA-1, and GSR part 2, as well as familiarity with ISO 19011 related to quality audits.
Educational Background: The educational background required for the Quality Technician position includes a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in engineering or a relevant discipline. In cases where candidates do not possess the required educational degree, extensive professional experience involving similar work responsibilities or additional training certificates in relevant domains may be considered as a substitute. This flexibility allows for a broader range of applicants to be considered for the role, ensuring that the organization can attract the best talent available.
Experience: Candidates should have a proven track record of experience in Quality Assurance, particularly in the nuclear sector or large-scale construction projects. The experience should encompass working within complex international environments, demonstrating the ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts and collaborate effectively with various stakeholders. The role demands a solid understanding of quality management principles and practices, as well as hands-on experience in implementing quality assurance programs and conducting audits.
