Job Overview:

The intern will work under the direct supervision of the UNIC Director and/or the National Information Officer (NIO), contributing to various projects aimed at enhancing the visibility and understanding of the United Nations' work in the region. The internship is unpaid, and candidates are expected to commit to full-time working hours for a duration of six months, totaling 35 hours per week. The intern will play a crucial role in developing and implementing communication strategies, promoting initiatives such as the SDG Book Club, and supporting efforts to combat misinformation and promote information integrity in Mexico. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage with key stakeholders, develop communication tools, and contribute to the UN's mission of fostering sustainable development and global cooperation.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to: assisting in the development and implementation of a communications plan for the UN Mexico Results Report; contributing to the dissemination and promotion of the SDG Book Club in collaboration with stakeholders; supporting the design and implementation of a plan to promote Information Integrity in Mexico; monitoring misinformation trends and potential reputational risks for the UN; contributing to inter-agency initiatives aimed at combating misinformation and hate speech; supporting the creation and maintenance of a database of communities of practice related to the UNSDCF and Information Integrity; assisting in conducting a needs assessment of the UN Communications Group's capacities; supporting the development of communication tools and training materials; creating public information content for various platforms; and performing other related tasks as required.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for the internship, applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent). Additionally, applicants must be computer literate in standard software applications, demonstrate a keen interest in the work of the United Nations, and possess the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. A personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter is essential. Desirable academic backgrounds include social sciences, journalism, communications, audiovisual communications, social media management, marketing, advertising, or related fields.

Educational Background:
Applicants must be either enrolled in or have completed a graduate program or be in the final year of a bachelor's degree program. The educational background should be closely related to the internship's focus, with preferred fields of study including social sciences, journalism, communications, and other relevant areas. Proof of enrollment or completion of the required educational qualifications must be attached to the application, and candidates may need to provide an official certificate at a later stage.

Experience:
While applicants are not required to have professional work experience, it is essential that their field of study is closely related to the internship they are applying for. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations, and they are responsible for covering their own costs related to travel, visas, accommodation, health insurance, and living expenses during the internship.
