Job Overview:
The director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director position is a senior management role responsible for overseeing all operations within Jordan. This includes providing strategic direction and operational leadership to ensure that NRC remains a principled humanitarian actor in the region. The Country Director will lead the Country Management Group (CMG) and collaborate closely with the Regional Management Team, under the guidance of the MENA Regional Director. The role requires a visionary leader who can promote innovative ideas, gain consensus among stakeholders, and act as a role model for the organization. The Country Director will be tasked with developing and executing the country strategy in collaboration with regional teams and neighboring country directors, ensuring effective resource allocation, mobilization, and compliance with donor requirements. Advocacy and national representation are key components of this role, as is the responsibility for maintaining a positive and collaborative working environment that prioritizes staff well-being and adherence to NRC's policies and ethical standards.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Country Director will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including but not limited to:
  • Development and execution of the country strategy in alignment with NRC's mission and objectives.
  • Collaborating with the Regional Team and other Country Directors to set strategic directions for addressing regional displacement crises.
  • Leading resource allocation, mobilization, and control efforts, including fundraising and donor engagement.
  • Advocating for NRC's position within the humanitarian context of Jordan and representing the organization at national and international levels.
  • Ensuring cost efficiency and quality in program implementation, including establishing control mechanisms and adequate operational structures.
  • Promoting a positive workplace culture characterized by trust and respect, while ensuring the well-being of staff and consultants.
  • Managing directly reporting staff, including performance management, workforce planning, recruitment, and staff development.
  • Overseeing all in-country activities, personnel, and ensuring the safety and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security of staff.
  • Ensuring compliance with NRC's policies, guidance, and procedures, while promoting accountability and ethical standards.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field of study. A minimum of seven years of relevant managerial experience is required, including at least five years in a senior management role such as Country Director within a humanitarian or recovery context. Candidates should have experience working in complex or volatile environments, particularly in protracted displacement settings. A strong understanding of the MENA region, especially Jordan, is essential. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate strong representation skills and experience in advocacy work, as well as the ability to lead diverse teams effectively.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in humanitarian studies, international relations, or related disciplines may be advantageous but are not explicitly required.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of seven years in relevant managerial roles. This includes at least five years of experience as a Senior Manager or Country Director in a humanitarian or recovery context. Candidates should have a proven track record of working in complex or volatile contexts, particularly in settings characterized by protracted displacement.

Languages:
Fluency in English, both written and verbal, is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Arabic is considered a plus and may enhance a candidate's suitability for the role, given the context of operations in Jordan.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Amman, Jordan, and is offered as a fixed-term contract for 24 months. The role may require travel of up to 15% within the country. The salary and benefits are classified under Grade 12 of NRC's grading structure.
