Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position within the Information Management (IM) team at UNHCR is designed to enhance the organization's data literacy and knowledge production on forced displacement. The volunteer will collaborate closely with the IM team to provide graphic design support for various materials aimed at the public. This role is crucial in standardizing lectures, training modules, and academic interventions, which are essential for promoting applied research and strengthening the understanding of forced displacement issues within national contexts. The volunteer will be responsible for creating visually appealing PowerPoint presentations and fact sheets that align with UNHCR's brand guidelines, ensuring that the information is accessible and engaging for the target audiences. This position not only contributes to the dissemination of vital information but also plays a part in countering misinformation and fostering a positive narrative around refugees.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with the Information Management team to understand the specific graphic design needs for various UNHCR materials.
  • Create visually compelling PowerPoint presentations that effectively communicate key messages and data related to forced displacement.
  • Design fact sheets that summarize important information in a clear and engaging manner, tailored to the needs of different audiences.
  • Ensure all designs adhere to UNHCR's brand guidelines and maintain a consistent visual identity across materials.
  • Participate in team meetings to discuss design concepts and gather feedback for continuous improvement.
  • Stay updated on best practices in graphic design and information management to enhance the quality of outputs.
  • Support the IM team in standardizing training modules and academic interventions through effective visual communication.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in graphic design software such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) or similar tools.
  • Strong skills in creating presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint or similar software.
  • Excellent visual communication skills with an eye for detail and aesthetics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with issues related to forced displacement, refugees, and asylum seekers is an advantage.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or experience that demonstrates their design capabilities and understanding of visual storytelling.

Experience:
Previous experience in graphic design, particularly in creating presentations and informational materials, is highly desirable. Experience working with non-profit organizations or in humanitarian contexts is a plus, as it provides valuable insight into the specific needs and challenges faced by refugees and displaced persons.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all materials will be developed in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly Romanian or other languages relevant to the refugee population in Romania, is considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
This is a volunteer position, and the duration of the contract is flexible based on the needs of the IM team and the availability of the volunteer. The role is remote, allowing for flexibility in working hours.
