Job Overview: The Platform Engineer position is situated within the Information and Technology Solutions (ITS) Vice Presidential Unit (VPU) of the World Bank Group. This role is critical in enabling the organization to achieve its mission of ending extreme poverty and boosting shared prosperity by delivering transformative information and technologies to its staff across over 150 locations. The position involves working within the World Bank Group Technology Office (ITSTO), which defines and executes the technology strategy for the organization, ensuring that technological investments and standards deliver secure, resilient, and efficient platforms to support global operations. The Platform Engineer will be responsible for designing, building, and operating enterprise observability platforms that support multiple technology and application teams, requiring a hands-on approach in a multicultural environment that values diversity, continuous learning, and collaboration. The ideal candidate will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills and possess a strong sense of curiosity and adaptability, contributing to the mission of the bank while developing their skills in a meaningful and collaborative environment.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Platform Engineer will work as part of the AIOps and Observability team within the Shared Services Platform Engineering organization. Key responsibilities include designing, building, and operating enterprise observability platforms, which encompass monitoring, log aggregation, metrics, traces, and events. The engineer will also be tasked with engineering and maintaining AIOps capabilities, such as anomaly detection, correlation, alert optimization, and predictive insights. Additionally, the role involves defining and enforcing telemetry, logging, and instrumentation standards across platforms and applications, enabling self-service observability through standardized dashboards and alerts, and integrating observability signals into CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation workflows. The engineer will partner with various teams, including cloud, developer experience, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, and application teams, to ensure observability is embedded by design, while also improving signal quality and reducing manual operational effort through automation and intelligent analysis.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. Proven experience working with multiple monitoring solutions, distributed systems, and cloud-native workloads is essential. The ideal candidate should have experience designing, building, and operating enterprise-scale observability and AIOps platforms, including familiarity with solutions such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Datadog, Azure Monitor, Prometheus, or equivalent platforms. A demonstrated ability to design reliable alerting and monitoring standards across teams, as well as deep experience in cloud and hybrid environments, is required. Candidates should also have strong knowledge of metrics, logs, distributed tracing, and event-based telemetry for large-scale systems, along with proven capability in designing alerting strategies and noise reduction.
Educational Background: A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required, with a preference for candidates holding a Master’s degree. The educational background should be complemented by extensive knowledge and experience in information technology, particularly in areas related to observability and AIOps.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience for those with a Bachelor’s degree, or at least 5 years for those with a Master’s degree. This experience should include working with multiple monitoring solutions and cloud-native workloads, as well as designing and operating enterprise-scale observability platforms.
