Job Overview: The position is situated within the Communication and Information Sector of UNESCO, which aims to promote freedom of expression and build knowledge societies. The consultant will play a crucial role in the UNESCO Memory of the World (MoW) Programme, specifically in implementing a project aimed at safeguarding documentary heritage at risk. This role involves policy advocacy, capacity building for memory institutions, and providing communication support for the project. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of project activities and the dissemination of results, thereby enhancing the visibility and impact of UNESCO's initiatives in the field of documentary heritage preservation.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for managing contracts with selected applicant entities, monitoring project implementation, drafting progress reports, and providing strategic communication support. Specific duties include assisting entities with contract finalization, liaising with internal divisions for contract processing, monitoring project progress and challenges, drafting narrative reports for donors, and developing communication materials. The consultant will also be tasked with finalizing action steps outlined in project reports and ensuring effective communication and visibility efforts for the project, including the creation of news articles and social media content.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in fields such as information, communication, archival science, or related disciplines. They should have a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in project implementation related to cultural heritage, archives, or library science, with at least 2 years at the international level. Experience in drafting analytical reports and developing communication strategies for project dissemination is essential. Strong organizational, coordination, and interpersonal skills are also required, along with the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in information, communication, archival science, records management, or related fields such as history, archaeology, sociology, or heritage studies is required for this position.
