Job Overview: The position of Individual Consultant for Documentary Heritage is situated within the Communication and Information Sector of UNESCO, specifically under the Documentary Heritage Unit. The primary mission of this sector is to promote freedom of expression and media development while fostering knowledge societies. The consultant will support the implementation and monitoring of activities related to documentary heritage, particularly initiatives funded by the Republic of Korea. This includes coordinating projects aimed at enhancing the preservation and accessibility of collections, contributing to digital heritage initiatives, and ensuring the regular updating of the Memory of the World (MoW) database. The consultant will work closely with various stakeholders, including UNESCO officers and project beneficiaries, to ensure effective communication and project implementation. The role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to produce high-quality reports and materials that highlight project achievements.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Individual Consultant include:
Coordinating activities under initiatives funded by the Republic of Korea, including liaising with UNESCO officers and project beneficiaries, providing technical support, and adjusting programmatic and financial plans as necessary.
Collecting information on project implementation and producing reports, analytical notes, and high-visibility materials.
Contributing to digital heritage work, including organizing the Software Heritage Symposium in partnership with relevant institutions.
Updating the MoW database and contributing to the MoW website, particularly for the International Register and MoW Committees.
Preparing briefings, reports, background papers, and communications for the unit as required.
Delivering monthly reports on activities undertaken and progress made as part of the contract.
Required Qualifications: The required qualifications for this position include an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in fields such as information, communication, archival science, records management, history, archaeology, sociology, or heritage studies. Candidates must possess excellent organizational, coordination, and interpersonal skills, along with strong analytical, drafting, and editing abilities in English. The ability to produce quality reports and disseminate project achievements globally is essential. Familiarity with graphic design software is also required, and candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
Educational Background: Candidates must hold an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in relevant fields such as information, communication, archival science, records management, or related disciplines. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of documentary heritage and the communication and information sector.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of relevant professional work experience in project implementation within the fields of cultural heritage, archives, or library science. At least 1 year of this experience should be at the international level. Experience in drafting high-quality analytical reports and developing communication outreach strategies is also required. Familiarity with UNESCO’s programs and experience in documentary heritage preservation projects are considered advantageous.
Languages: Excellent knowledge of English is mandatory, along with a good knowledge of French. Proficiency in these languages is essential for effective communication and reporting within the international context of the role.

The selected candidate will work remotely, and no travel will be supported. The compensation for the assignment is competitive, with a maximum fee of 2800 EUR per month.
