Duties and Responsibilities: The Security Coordinator will support the Security Team in developing, managing, and coordinating organization-wide security programs to address various needs and issues. Responsibilities include interacting and coordinating with networks of security professionals and vendors to safeguard the organization’s personnel, assets, and intellectual property. The Coordinator will prepare risk and threat assessment reports and mitigation recommendations for internal use, participate in field assessments of new project implementation areas, and document results using FHI 360 standard templates. The role involves helping to develop and establish the Country Security Plan and other security policies and procedures, conducting security and political risk analyses, and providing security/risk management training for staff. The Coordinator will develop relationships with relevant authorities and community leaders to ensure access for ongoing programming, monitor and analyze the ongoing threat environment, and distribute threat warnings to staff as appropriate. The position also includes overseeing movement control and coordination for the project, ensuring compliance and performance of contracted security providers, conducting routine security surveys and inspections, and maintaining fire evacuation plans and conducting fire drills as necessary. The Security Coordinator is required to assist with out-of-hours emergency response as needed.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate must possess a working knowledge of security concepts, practices, and procedures as they relate to overall project design. They should have the ability to work with external agencies, including security counterparts in the host Government, United Nations, and peer INGOs. Effective teamwork and communication skills are essential, as the Coordinator will interact with all departments and outside organizations. The candidate should demonstrate long- and short-term planning skills, the ability to identify resources and set priorities, and establish appropriate milestones and metrics for effective follow-through on initiatives. The role requires the ability to respond quickly and effectively to crisis situations, analyze complex information, and provide recommendations. Strong program/project management skills, report preparation abilities, and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are also necessary.
Educational Background: A Bachelor's Degree or International Equivalent in security and protective services is required. Training in security management, including security analysis, emergency planning, and disaster response, is preferred. A diploma or associate degree from a recognized military or police academy, combined with additional years of qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of a first-level university degree.
Experience: Typically, a minimum of 3+ years of experience in developing and implementing security policies, procedures, and standards is required. Experience in assessing security risks and working with outside vendors is essential. A Security Management or RedR certificate is preferred, along with prior team lead experience and work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, with the ability to read, write, and speak clearly. Additional languages may be beneficial but are not specified as mandatory.
