Job Overview:
The Driver position at UNHCR involves not only driving official vehicles but also maintaining and ensuring the operational readiness of these vehicles. The incumbent will be responsible for transporting authorized personnel, delivering documents, and facilitating customs and immigration processes when necessary. The Driver will also engage in minor vehicle maintenance and repairs, ensuring that all vehicles are kept clean and in good working order. This position is crucial for the smooth operation of UNHCR's activities in the field, as it supports the mobility of staff and the delivery of services to those in need. The Driver will work closely with various stakeholders, including government authorities and partner organizations, to ensure effective communication and coordination in the field.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Driver will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Drive UNHCR vehicles for the transport of authorized passengers and deliver or collect documents and other items as required.
  • Meet official personnel at airports or other locations and facilitate immigration and customs formalities.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks on assigned vehicles, including oil, water, battery, brakes, and tires, ensuring they are roadworthy and meet security standards.
  • Conduct minor repairs and arrange for major repairs as necessary, keeping the vehicle clean and well-maintained.
  • Log official trips, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and maintenance activities.
  • Follow all security guidance and instructions provided by supervisors and security focal points.
  • Ensure valid documentation for passengers and cargo in the vehicle.
  • Support risk management and decision-making processes in the area of responsibility.
  • Perform other related duties as required by the supervisor.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a valid driving license and have knowledge of driving rules and regulations. Essential qualifications include a minimum of two years of relevant experience and completion of primary education or a high school diploma. Functional skills required for this position include basic vehicle mechanical skills and a thorough understanding of driving regulations. Candidates should demonstrate accountability, professionalism, and respect for diversity in their work.

Educational Background:
The minimum educational requirement for this position is the completion of primary education. A high school diploma or higher is preferred. Candidates must also hold a valid driving license, which is essential for the role.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of two years of relevant driving experience. Candidates should have a solid understanding of vehicle maintenance and repair, as well as experience in driving in various conditions. Previous experience working with humanitarian organizations is desirable but not mandatory.

Languages:
Knowledge of Spanish is mandatory, with a required proficiency level of at least B
