Job Overview: The Animal Health and Production Specialist position is crucial for strengthening the prevention of animal infectious and zoonotic diseases through comprehensive epidemiological surveillance, data analysis, vaccination, and evidence-based disease control interventions. Duties and Responsibilities: The responsibilities of the Animal Health and Production Specialist include conducting epidemiological studies to assess animal health status, designing and implementing disease surveillance programs, collecting and analyzing data related to animal health, and using statistical methods to interpret data for decision-making. The specialist will collaborate with public health and environmental sectors to implement a One Health framework, provide training to veterinary professionals, and conduct workshops for farmers on zoonotic diseases. Additionally, the role involves responding to disease outbreaks, developing disease control strategies, assisting in vaccination campaigns, and maintaining relationships with local authorities and NGOs. Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) or a university degree (Bachelor's) in veterinary science or livestock production. For those with a Master's degree, at least five years of relevant work experience in animal health and production is required, while candidates with a Bachelor's degree must have at least seven years of relevant experience. A minimum of two years of experience with the UN or international NGOs in veterinary or livestock production is desirable. Proficiency in English and local languages (Dari and/or Pashto) is mandatory, and candidates must be nationals of Afghanistan.
Educational Background: The educational requirements for this position include an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in veterinary science or livestock production. Alternatively, a university degree (Bachelor's) in the same fields is acceptable, provided the candidate meets the corresponding work experience requirements. It is essential that the educational qualifications are obtained from institutions accredited or recognized in the World Higher Education Database (WHED).
Experience: The position requires a significant level of experience in animal health and production.
