Job Overview:
The Rehabilitation Technical Officer - Physiotherapist will play a crucial role in enhancing the capacity of national physiotherapists and rehabilitation officers in Afghanistan. This position is focused on providing high-quality rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities, particularly children with conditions such as clubfoot, cerebral palsy, and developmental delays. The officer will work closely with national staff to ensure that rehabilitation services are delivered effectively and meet the needs of the beneficiaries. The role involves extensive travel across multiple provinces in Afghanistan to support mobile and static rehabilitation teams, ensuring that comprehensive services are provided in both urban and rural settings. The officer will also be responsible for training and mentoring national staff, developing training materials, and conducting workshops to improve the overall quality of rehabilitation services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Ensure the quality of physical rehabilitation services according to HI standards, including proper documentation and adherence to clinical procedures.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of services delivered, ensuring that assistive technology products meet user needs.
  • Collaborate with other rehabilitation professionals to design adaptive devices and modifications for children with disabilities.
  • Provide comprehensive training and mentorship to national Rehabilitation Technical Officers and physiotherapists.
  • Develop and update training materials, guidelines, and protocols for rehabilitation practices.
  • Conduct workshops and training sessions for healthcare professionals and caregivers.
  • Assess and implement home modifications to support rehabilitation processes.
  • Facilitate weekly meetings to analyze assessment forms and provide feedback to field staff.
  • Ensure regular reporting on activities and data management related to physiotherapy services. 1
  • Support the management of physiotherapy staff and contribute to their professional development.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physiotherapy, with clinical experience in humanitarian contexts. A strong background in capacity building and training is highly desirable. The ideal candidate should demonstrate technical leadership in training and have experience in setting up or expanding rehabilitation services. Familiarity with working with children with disabilities and survivors of conflict is essential. Candidates should also have the ability to adapt practices based on ongoing evaluations and feedback.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in physiotherapy is required for this position. The educational background should include clinical training and experience in rehabilitation practices, particularly in humanitarian settings. Additional certifications or training in specialized areas of rehabilitation may be advantageous.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in rehabilitation, particularly in working with children with disabilities such as cerebral palsy, clubfoot, and developmental dysplasia of the hip is required. Experience in capacity building and training is highly desirable. Candidates should have a proven track record of designing and overseeing rehabilitation projects and should demonstrate recognized technical leadership in the field.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory. Proficiency in Dari and/or Pashto is considered an asset, as it will facilitate communication with local staff and beneficiaries.

This position is offered as a 4-month international contract starting from April 1st, 202
  • The contract includes social coverage adapted to the context of the mission, including unemployment insurance for EU nationals, a pension scheme, and medical coverage with a 50% employee contribution. The salary starts at €2,346 gross per month, depending on experience, with additional benefits such as a per diem of €694 net per month, a hardship allowance of €500 net per month, and 25 days of paid leave per year. The position is unaccompanied, with collective housing provided by HI. For local residents, a local package will be offered.
