Job Overview: The Senior Communications Specialist (SCS) will be instrumental in developing and executing multi-channel communications strategies that support WWF’s Nature Finance and Investment (NFI) initiative. This role requires a deep understanding of finance, investment, and conservation, as the SCS will be responsible for translating complex financial concepts into accessible content for various audiences. The SCS will collaborate closely with NFI staff and other communicators within WWF to ensure that all communications align with the organization’s brand standards and guidelines. The position involves creating both print and digital content, managing social media assets, and overseeing communications strategies that advance the goals of NFI and WWF’s broader mission. The SCS will also engage with external partners and represent the NFI team at events, making this a dynamic role that requires strong communication skills and strategic thinking.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Senior Communications Specialist will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including: developing comprehensive communications strategies and writing detailed communications plans that align with NFI’s priorities; creating and co-creating diverse communications content such as messaging, presentations, news releases, and web stories; managing NFI’s social media presence and supporting leadership’s outreach efforts; overseeing the NFI team’s fact database, editorial calendar, and internal newsletter; coordinating with internal colleagues across various teams to implement communication plans; managing relationships with external partners and communications vendors; responding to information requests from colleagues and the public; providing communications counsel and representing the NFI team at events; establishing expertise in NFI programmatic areas; tracking relevant topics and mitigating potential reputational issues; reviewing and evaluating communications activities; and performing other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as communications, journalism, conservation, economics/business, or international development. A minimum of six years of experience in mission-oriented strategic communications is required, or three years of experience with an advanced degree. Strong written and verbal communication skills, along with project management abilities, are essential. Candidates should have advanced expertise with Microsoft 365 software, including Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and SharePoint, and professional experience managing social media assets across multiple platforms. Familiarity with the Chicago Manual of Style and adherence to organizational editorial and brand guidelines are also necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships in a complex environment are crucial, as is a commitment to fostering a culture of inclusion within teams.
