Job Overview:
The Support Specialist in Karst Ecosystem Conservation will play a crucial role in the conservation and sustainable management of karst ecosystems. This position involves working closely with local communities, stakeholders, and government agencies to implement conservation strategies and initiatives. The specialist will be responsible for conducting assessments, developing conservation plans, and facilitating workshops and training sessions to raise awareness about the importance of karst ecosystems. The role requires a strong understanding of ecological principles, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences. The specialist will also be expected to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of conservation efforts and report on progress to UNDP and other stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct ecological assessments of karst ecosystems to identify key biodiversity areas and threats to conservation.
  • Develop and implement conservation strategies and action plans in collaboration with local communities and stakeholders.
  • Facilitate workshops and training sessions to educate stakeholders about karst ecosystem conservation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of conservation initiatives and provide recommendations for improvement.
  • Prepare reports and documentation on conservation activities and progress for UNDP and other stakeholders.
  • Engage with local communities to promote sustainable practices and enhance their involvement in conservation efforts.
  • Collaborate with government agencies and NGOs to align conservation efforts with national and regional policies.
  • Stay updated on best practices and emerging trends in ecosystem conservation and apply this knowledge to the role.

Required Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of ecological principles and conservation strategies, particularly related to karst ecosystems.
  • Proven experience in project management and implementation of conservation initiatives.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a multicultural environment.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software for ecological assessments.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in managing multiple tasks and deadlines.

Educational Background:
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or a related field is required. A Master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be advantageous for the role.

Experience:
At least 3-5 years of professional experience in ecosystem conservation, project management, or a related field is required. Experience working with karst ecosystems or similar environments is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNDP processes and procedures is a plus.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia or other local languages is highly desirable and will be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The position is for an individual contractor and is expected to last for 40 working days within a period of 5 months. The role is part-time and requires flexibility in working hours to accommodate the needs of the project and stakeholders.
