WWF is committed to diversity and inclusion, aiming to create an organization that reflects the richness of unique views, experiences, and backgrounds, unified by core values of Courage, Respect, Integrity, and Collaboration.
Job Overview: The BRIDGE Corporate Circularity Strategy Research Graduate Intern position at WWF is designed for graduate students who are interested in gaining practical experience in the environmental sector. The intern will support the Private Sector Engagement department and collaborate with the Plastic & Material Science team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to engage with industry and NGO experts, conduct research and analysis, and contribute to WWF's mission of promoting corporate circular economy strategies. The intern will perform desktop research to analyze the corporate circularity landscape across three industries: textiles, consumer electronics, and clean energy infrastructure. The role involves articulating and testing the business case for circularity and integrating findings into WWF's corporate engagement strategy, ultimately helping to advance WWF's goals in corporate sustainability and circularity.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern will conduct a comprehensive landscape analysis using desktop research to evaluate how WWF's corporate partners and leading industry brands develop, set, track, and communicate their circularity ambitions. This includes assessing the connections between circularity and other sustainability goals, such as nature and climate, and identifying how businesses implement circular interventions to achieve their corporate sustainability objectives. The intern will collaborate with the Private Sector Engagement and Climate teams to formulate recommendations for WWF's corporate engagement strategy regarding circularity. The role requires the intern to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work both independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be pursuing a graduate program in Sustainability Management, Corporate Sustainability Strategy, Circular Economy Systems, or Materials Science. However, students from other relevant fields are also encouraged to apply. Applicants must be actively enrolled students and should not have received their degree by the internship start date of June 1, 202
Candidates should align with WWF's core values of Courage, Integrity, Respect, and Collaboration, demonstrating the ability to speak up, build trust, embrace diverse perspectives, and promote cooperative practices. Strong research, analytical, communication, and project management skills are essential, along with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Word.
Educational Background: The position requires candidates to be enrolled in a graduate program related to sustainability or materials science. While specific degrees in Sustainability Management, Corporate Sustainability Strategy, Circular Economy Systems, or Materials Science are preferred, applicants from other relevant fields are also welcome to apply. The educational background should provide a solid foundation in sustainability principles and practices, particularly in relation to corporate strategies and environmental impacts.
Experience: The internship is aimed at graduate students who may not have extensive professional experience but are eager to learn and contribute to the field of conservation. While prior experience in sustainability or corporate engagement is beneficial, it is not a strict requirement. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a willingness to learn, engage with industry experts, and apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges in the environmental sector.
Languages: While the job description does not specify mandatory languages, proficiency in English is essential for effective communication and collaboration within the organization and with external partners. Additional language skills may be beneficial, particularly in relation to WWF's global operations and partnerships.
Additional Notes: This is a paid internship position, offering compensation of $23 per hour for full-time work (35 hours per week). The internship will run from June 1 to August 7, 202
The position is flexible in terms of location, allowing the intern to work from Washington DC or other states, with the exception of Hawaii, Kentucky, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Wyoming. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S., and the position is not eligible for employment visa sponsorship. Interested candidates should submit a resume and cover letter detailing their relevant skills, interest in the position, connection to nature and the environment, and potential contributions to conservation.
