Job Overview:
The Field Coordinator (FC) represents Solidarités International in the field, tasked with proposing strategies that are adapted to the humanitarian and geopolitical context. The FC ensures that projects are implemented in accordance with the organization’s charter and procedures. This role involves coordinating teams, overseeing their safety, managing material and financial resources, and supervising recruitment and staff well-being. The FC also liaises with local authorities, NGOs, and other humanitarian actors, ensuring effective information flow and maintaining high-quality reporting. Monitoring the local context is crucial to guide programs, ensuring their relevance and coherence, and contributing to reports, donor communications, and funding applications while promoting the ethics and values of Solidarités International.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Coordinator will be responsible for representing SI in the field, coordinating project implementation, and ensuring adherence to safety protocols. Key responsibilities include:
  • Developing and proposing strategies for project implementation in line with the humanitarian context.
  • Coordinating and managing field teams, ensuring their safety and well-being.
  • Overseeing the management of material and financial resources.
  • Supervising recruitment processes and supporting staff development.
  • Liaising with local authorities and other humanitarian actors to ensure effective collaboration.
  • Monitoring the local context to inform program relevance and coherence.
  • Ensuring high-quality reporting and communication with donors.
  • Promoting the values and ethics of SI in all interactions and operations.
  • Adapting to security constraints and ensuring compliance with safety guidelines. 1
  • Setting up the team and initiating project activities based on assessments and preparatory notes.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree or equivalent field experience in Humanitarian Action, International Development, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have at least 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with 3 to 4 years in a similar position. Relevant management skills are essential, including leadership, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, adaptability, and organizational abilities. A strong understanding of finance and logistics processes is also required.

Educational Background:
A master’s degree in a relevant field such as Humanitarian Action, International Development, Social Sciences, or Project Management is required. Equivalent field experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 3 to 4 years in a similar role, demonstrating relevant management and operational skills in challenging environments.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this position. Knowledge of local languages, particularly Amharic, is considered a strong asset and will enhance communication with local stakeholders and communities.

  • The role is based in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, which is currently facing significant humanitarian challenges due to ongoing conflict. The position offers a competitive salary starting from EUR 3080 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 400 is provided, along with accommodation costs and travel expenses covered by SI. Expatriates will benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical, surgical, dental, and repatriation costs. Breaks are implemented at a rate of 7 working days every three months, with an additional rest day granted for each month worked. Living conditions include shared guesthouse accommodations, with limited social life and dining options in the region.
