Job Overview: The Grant Manager will be a key member of the coordination-team" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">coordination team, reporting directly to the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director. This role involves close collaboration with program and support departments at the coordination level, as well as base teams. The primary responsibility of the Grant Manager is to ensure accountability to donors. This includes contributing to the strategic development of the mission, monitoring and identifying funding opportunities that align with SI's country and global strategies, overseeing the compilation of high-quality proposals, reports, and contract modification requests for submission to donors and consortium partners. The Grant Manager will also monitor compliance with donor procedures and provide capacity building for new and existing staff on internal accountability tools and donor procedures. The role requires proactive management of donor contractual obligations, from contracting to closing and archiving, ensuring that all relevant staff and departments are aware of their responsibilities. Additionally, the Grant Manager will centralize and prepare documentation for external audits and maintain audit report archives. This position is particularly challenging as it is the first of its kind in the mission, requiring the candidate to establish the department and create a vision for grant and partnership management in a competitive funding landscape.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Grant Manager will be responsible for defining the aims and objectives of the grant and partnership department based on SI's operational ambitions in Ethiopia. This includes establishing grant criteria and guidelines, which encompass essential details such as terms and conditions, purpose, scope, reporting requirements, and grant eligibility. The Grant Manager will prepare an overview and maintain all grants, donor requirements, rules and regulations, and internal and external deadlines. They will lead the development of donor applications and reports, ensuring compliance with donor requirements and quality control. The role also involves leading the development and revision of new funding proposals, budgets, and donor reports. The Grant Manager will be expected to monitor funding opportunities, compile proposals, and ensure timely submission to donors, while also maintaining high standards of accountability and transparency throughout the process.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree or equivalent field experience in Finance, Economy, Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, or a related field. A minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector is required, along with at least 5 years of experience in a similar position. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in grant and partnership management, project management, and program management, particularly in preparing reports for institutional donors such as ECHO, CDCS, GFFO, SIDA, and FCDO. Strong people management and development skills, commitment to SI principles, behavioral flexibility, results and quality orientation, and teamwork and cooperation are essential.
Educational Background: A degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economy, Social Sciences, Political Science, Law, or a related area is required. Equivalent field experience may also be considered in lieu of formal education.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with at least 5 years of experience in a similar role. Candidates should have a strong background in grant and partnership management, project management, and program management, with a proven track record of preparing reports for institutional donors.
Languages: Fluency in written and spoken English is essential for this position. Knowledge of local languages such as Amharic or Tigrigna is considered a strong asset, enhancing communication and engagement with local communities and stakeholders.

The role is based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The salary for this position starts from EUR 2310 gross per month, which includes a base salary of EUR 2100 and a 10% annual leave allowance paid monthly. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 400 is provided. SI covers accommodation costs and travel expenses between the expatriate's country of origin and the place of assignment. The organization implements a system of alternation between work and time off, allowing for 7 working days off every three months, along with a USD 850 break allowance. Expatriates benefit from a comprehensive insurance package covering healthcare expenses, including medical and surgical expenses, dental care, and repatriation. Living conditions include shared guesthouse accommodations in Addis and project locations, with internet and telephone services available. While social life and restaurant options are limited in some project areas, basic food items are accessible in Addis.
