Job Overview:
The Associate Public Information Officer position is located within the Administration and Conference Management Division, specifically in the Publications and Conference Management Section, Conference Management and Interpretation Unit. The incumbent will support the day-to-day management and operations of the Africa Hall Visitors Center, focusing on enhancing visitor experience, visibility, and external engagement. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders and involves drafting communication products, organizing events, and ensuring the effective dissemination of information related to Africa Hall's historical legacy and institutional role. The position demands a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships and enhancing the overall visitor experience through well-prepared materials and guidance to staff.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Public Information Officer include tracking, researching, and analyzing information related to Africa Hall’s historical legacy, drafting and compiling various communication products such as press releases and newsletters, organizing the clearance and distribution of information materials, preparing drafts for UN publications, identifying information opportunities, and organizing events such as conferences and press briefings. The incumbent will also respond to inquiries regarding Africa Hall’s heritage, contribute to data collection and analysis, oversee staff at the Visitors Center, and ensure a high-quality visitor experience through effective planning and coordination of tasks.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a strong background in public information, journalism, international relations, or related fields. The ability to draft clear and concise communication products, plan and execute public communication campaigns, and analyze issues related to current events is essential. The role requires professionalism, effective communication skills, and the ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to gender perspectives and inclusivity in their work.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree in communications, journalism, international relations, public or business administration, or a related field is required. A first-level degree in the specified fields with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Successful completion of degree and non-degree programs in marketing, data analytics, or related fields is considered an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration, or marketing is required. Experience in data analytics or related areas is desirable, with at least one year of relevant experience preferred.

Languages:
English is required for this position, with a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in reading, writing, listening, and speaking. French is desirable, also requiring a minimum proficiency level of UN Level II in all language skills. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages, tailoring their communication style to suit different audiences.

This position is categorized as a National Professional Officer role, meaning candidates must be nationals of Ethiopia or reside within commuting distance of the office.
