Job Overview:
The Senior Investment Officer (SIO) position within the Financial Institutions Group (FIG) at IFC is a critical role that involves managing and monitoring financial sector investments across Africa. The SIO will be responsible for originating and developing a strong pipeline of investment opportunities, building relationships with clients and stakeholders, and leading investment transactions. This role requires a deep understanding of the local market and industry, as well as the ability to engage with mid and senior-level clients to identify business challenges and opportunities. The SIO will also support upstream initiatives to enhance financial sector growth and inclusion, mentor junior staff, and ensure effective portfolio management. The position demands excellent negotiation skills, the ability to develop innovative financial structures, and a commitment to sustainable development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Senior Investment Officer include: developing a strong pipeline of investment opportunities through proactive origination and business development; building and maintaining relationships with clients, investors, and stakeholders; mobilizing other investors alongside IFC; engaging with clients to understand their business directions and challenges; leading investment transactions and portfolio restructurings; using negotiation skills to resolve complex transaction issues; collaborating on client strategies and engagement plans; developing innovative financial structures; mentoring junior staff; coordinating with colleagues on social, environmental, and governance issues; monitoring portfolio projects; reviewing financial performance and preparing management reports; and ensuring quality of portfolio reporting information prepared by junior staff.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a Master's degree in finance or a similar relevant field, with accreditation as a CFA or CPA considered a plus. Candidates should have at least 15 years of relevant experience in the financial sector, including a solid understanding of commercial banks and financial entities in Africa. A demonstrated network of contacts in the financial services and investment industries is essential, along with documented experience in identifying, evaluating, structuring, and negotiating private debt and equity investments. Strong problem-solving and negotiation skills, the ability to work under pressure, and effective communication skills in English are mandatory, with French being a significant advantage.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess a Master's degree in finance or a related field. Additional qualifications such as CFA or CPA accreditation are highly regarded and can enhance a candidate's profile for this position.

Experience:
The role requires a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in the financial sector, with a focus on commercial banks and financial entities in Africa. Candidates should have a proven track record in investment management, portfolio management, and the ability to navigate complex financial transactions.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, with excellent verbal and written communication skills required. Proficiency in French is preferred and considered a significant advantage, as it enhances the ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders in the region.
