Job Overview:
The BRIDGE Global Farm Loss Tool Graduate Intern position at WWF is designed for graduate students who are interested in sustainability, agricultural systems, and natural resource management. This internship is part of WWF's initiative to address the significant issue of food waste, which accounts for nearly 40% of global food production. The intern will play a crucial role in supporting WWF's Food Waste Team by aggregating and analyzing data related to farm loss, which is essential for developing strategies to reduce food waste across the supply chain. The intern will be responsible for compiling existing farm loss data, organizing it for reporting purposes, and providing guidance to external partners on effective crop selection for food loss measurement and reduction. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to impactful conservation efforts while gaining valuable experience in data analysis and project management.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
  • Aggregating farm loss data from WWF's Global Farm Loss Tool and other external resources over the past three years.
  • Organizing the collected data into an Excel spreadsheet to identify general themes and trends related to farm loss.
  • Developing guidelines for companies regarding effective interventions for measuring and reducing food loss, based on the research findings.
  • Creating a framework for a final report that summarizes previous efforts using the Global Farm Loss Tool, including business cases that utilized the tool for data collection.
  • Supporting the development of a public-facing dashboard or other communication tools to share insights from the Global Farm Loss Tool with external stakeholders.
  • Assisting in planning Farmer Buyer tours on selected farms in California as part of the US Food Waste Pact Supplier Engagement Task Force.

Required Qualifications:
To qualify for this internship, candidates must be pursuing a graduate program in sustainability, agricultural systems, natural resource management, or related fields. Candidates from other disciplines are also encouraged to apply, provided they demonstrate a strong interest in conservation and sustainability.
