Job Overview:
The Program Analyst A&Y position is a critical role within UNFPA Uganda, focusing on the effective implementation of activities related to adolescents and youth. This position is part of a broader initiative aimed at addressing harmful practices such as child marriage and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), promoting youth participation, and enhancing adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health (AYSRH). The role involves working closely with the Programme Specialist for Adolescent and Youth, ensuring that the objectives of the 10th Country Programme are met, particularly in empowering young people and ensuring their voices are heard in decision-making processes. The analyst will contribute to the development of strategies and programs that support the rights and needs of adolescents and youth, fostering an environment where they can thrive and lead.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Program Analyst A&Y will undertake a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to: documenting activities related to adolescents and youth, organizing youth events, and providing support for technical writing. The analyst will analyze current programs and strategies to generate knowledge about A&Y issues, sharing lessons learned and best practices with management for future planning. Participation in the Gender and Youth team initiatives is essential, as is supporting the mainstreaming of A&Y considerations across other units. The analyst will also compile analytical reports related to A&Y, contribute innovative ideas for scaling up AYSRH prevention and service delivery programs, and participate in key meetings regarding the development of the National Action Plan for Youth, Peace, and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (YPS) in Uganda. Additionally, the analyst will prepare necessary documents for youth engagements, such as concept notes and reports, and support social accountability and youth structure engagement.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates for the Program Analyst A&Y position should possess a strong understanding of sexual and reproductive health issues, particularly as they pertain to adolescents and youth. They should demonstrate a commitment to gender equality and the empowerment of young people. The ideal candidate will have experience in program analysis, project management, and community engagement, with a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Strong analytical skills, creativity, and adaptability are essential, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in sexual and reproductive health, gender studies, or youth development may be advantageous and are often preferred.

Experience:
Candidates should have a minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience in program analysis, project management, or a related field, particularly in the context of sexual and reproductive health and rights. Experience working with adolescents and youth, as well as familiarity with gender-based violence issues, is highly desirable. Previous involvement in UN or international development projects is a plus, as is experience in community engagement and capacity building.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within UNFPA and in Uganda. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda may be considered an asset, as it can enhance communication and engagement with local communities.

Additional Notes:
The duty station for this position will be in Kampala, Uganda, with occasional travel to UNFPA focus districts, including those that host refugees. This role is part of a United Nations Volunteers (UNV) assignment, which may have specific terms regarding contract duration and conditions. The position is expected to be full-time, and candidates should be prepared to engage in a dynamic and challenging work environment that requires flexibility and adaptability.
