Job Overview: The UNV Specialist position is integral to the implementation of the Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG) program within UN Women Mozambique. This role involves contributing to the development of strategies and initiatives aimed at preventing and responding to gender-based violence (GBV) in humanitarian settings. The specialist will work closely with various stakeholders, including government entities, civil society organizations, and humanitarian partners, to ensure effective delivery of results and compliance with UN Women’s systems and survivor-centered programming principles. The position requires a proactive approach to monitoring and reporting on project progress, as well as providing technical assistance and capacity development to project partners. The specialist will also play a key role in advocacy, knowledge building, and communication efforts related to the project, ensuring that lessons learned and best practices are documented and shared.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Contribute technically to the development of EVAWG–Humanitarian programme strategies by providing inputs to the design and formulation of the Country Office’s Strategy Note, Annual Work Plan, and project proposals. Stay updated on GBV trends and humanitarian developments affecting women and girls, and liaise with relevant stakeholders.
Support the implementation and management of the EVAWG project by providing inputs to annual work and budget plans, assisting in the selection and management of civil society partners, and ensuring alignment of narrative and financial reports.
Provide technical assistance for the capacity development of project partners, including guidance during activity implementation, identifying capacity gaps, and facilitating training.
Monitor and report on project progress using Results-Based Management tools, conducting field visits, and supporting data collection and documentation of results.
Contribute to advocacy and knowledge building by developing communication materials, organizing events, and documenting lessons learned.
Strengthen partnerships and resource mobilization efforts by preparing relevant documentation and participating in coordination and donor meetings.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for the UNV Specialist position should possess strong program formulation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation skills. A good understanding of Results-Based Management is essential, along with the ability to gather and interpret data effectively. The candidate should demonstrate good analytical skills and knowledge of women's economic principles, as well as the ability to identify trends and opportunities for fundraising. Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills are also critical for this role.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a degree in social sciences, gender studies, international development, or a related field. A master's degree is preferred, as it provides a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding gender equality and women's empowerment.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in program management, particularly in the areas of gender equality, women's rights, or humanitarian assistance. Experience working with UN agencies or international organizations is highly desirable, as is familiarity with the specific challenges faced by women and girls in crisis situations.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of Portuguese is highly desirable. Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the local context may also be beneficial.
Additional Notes: This is a national UN Volunteer assignment based in Pemba, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique. The UN Volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. National UN Volunteers are part of a malicious insurance plan and are expected to be culturally sensitive and adapt to the local culture and traditions.
