Job Overview: The Area Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of NRC's operations in the North Kivu region, including team management, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security, reputation, and operational quality. This role involves ensuring that programs are implemented on time, meet high-quality standards, and align with the expectations of donors and the organization. The Area Manager will supervise senior staff in the implementation area and participate in the NRC leadership team in the DRC. The position requires compliance with NRC policies, procedures, and guidelines, as well as effective management of grants and project expenditures. The Area Manager will also be responsible for implementing programs that target the most vulnerable populations in need of protection, ensuring cost-effectiveness and high-quality service delivery.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervise and manage all NRC operations in the North Kivu region, ensuring adherence to NRC policies and procedures.
Oversee the management of senior staff within the implementation area, providing guidance and support.
Participate in the NRC leadership team in the DRC, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making.
Ensure timely and high-quality implementation of programs, maintaining a focus on cost-effectiveness and beneficiary needs.
Monitor and report on project implementation and expenditure levels, ensuring compliance with donor requirements.
Manage security protocols and ensure the safety of staff and operations in a complex and unstable environment.
Engage with local stakeholders and partners to enhance NRC's reputation and operational effectiveness.
Lead capacity-building initiatives for staff and partners to improve program delivery and impact.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior management or project management role within a humanitarian or recovery context.
At least 8 years of experience in humanitarian work, preferably with non-governmental organizations.
Proven experience working in complex and unstable environments, with a strong understanding of the DRC context.
Expertise in one or more of NRC's key competencies (Shelter, EHA, Education, ICLA, Protection, Humanitarian Mediation, Emergency response, etc.).
Demonstrated results in previous positions related to the responsibilities of this role.
Strong leadership skills and self-awareness regarding personal competencies.
Educational Background: A relevant degree in social sciences, international development, humanitarian studies, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in humanitarian response or project management are advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a zone manager or senior project manager role within a humanitarian context. A total of at least 8 years of experience in humanitarian work is preferred, with a strong background in managing complex projects and teams in challenging environments.
Languages: Fluency in French and English, both written and verbal, is mandatory. Knowledge of Swahili is considered an asset, enhancing communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a 12-month fixed-term contract with NRC Congo at Grade 10 international. The role is based in Bunia, DRC.
