Job Overview:
The Consultant/Facilitator position at ECA is designed to enhance team cohesion, communication, and collaboration within the organization. The role involves leading and facilitating various workshops, retreats, and team-building activities that align with ECA's strategic and operational goals. The facilitator will work closely with ECA divisions and sections to develop tailored program agendas and materials, ensuring that the facilitation process is structured, solution-oriented, and engaging. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating an inclusive environment that fosters open dialogue and productive engagement among participants. The position requires a high level of adaptability and the ability to manage group dynamics effectively, ensuring that all participants are engaged and focused on achieving the objectives of each session.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Consultant/Facilitator include:
  • Programme Design and Preparation: Collaborate with ECA focal points to develop and finalize programme agendas, tools, and resource materials through a consultative process. Tailor facilitation content to meet the specific needs of the requesting division or section.
  • Facilitation Delivery: Lead and facilitate retreat sessions, strategy workshops, team-building activities, and problem-solving meetings. Create an inclusive and participatory environment that supports open dialogue. Select and apply appropriate facilitation methods and tools to help groups meet objectives. Manage group dynamics effectively, addressing conflicts and maintaining focus on goals.
  • Process Management and Documentation: Guide participants through discussions, synthesize key points, and provide clear summaries. Monitor group engagement and adapt facilitation approaches as needed. Produce comprehensive post-session reports with observations and actionable recommendations.
  • Work Location: Assignments may take place at ECA Headquarters in Addis Ababa or at any ECA Subregional Office depending on organizational needs. Engagement duration varies by assignment, and inclusion in the roster does not imply immediate engagement.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in human resources management, psychology, organizational development, public administration, social sciences, education, or a related field. A first-level university degree combined with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. Certification in Facilitation from recognized institutions is an advantage. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in designing and facilitating retreats, strategic planning sessions, and organizational development workshops. Demonstrated knowledge of interactive learning methodologies and effective communication skills are essential. Proven knowledge of organizational learning and evaluation methods is desirable, and experience in UN or international organizations is an asset.

Educational Background:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in relevant fields such as human resources management, psychology, organizational development, public administration, social sciences, or education. A first-level university degree may be accepted in combination with qualifying experience. Certification in Facilitation from recognized institutions is considered an advantage.

Experience:
A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in designing and facilitating retreats, strategic planning sessions, and organizational development workshops is required. Candidates should have experience facilitating small and large groups of adult learners in an organizational setting, demonstrating knowledge of interactive learning methodologies and effective communication skills. Experience in UN or international organizations is a valuable asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is required as it is one of the working languages of the United Nations. Knowledge of French is an advantage, and proficiency in another UN official language is considered an added benefit.
