Job Overview: The Digital Education Officer position is essential for enhancing digital learning activities within UNRWA's Education Programme. The officer will supervise and ensure that teachers effectively utilize digital education tools to produce high-quality outputs. Reporting to the Deputy Chief Field Education Programme (Technical), the officer will work in an office environment equipped with necessary technology and may require local travel. The role involves implementing digital blended learning strategies, collaborating with education stakeholders, and ensuring alignment with global best practices in digital pedagogy. The officer will also be responsible for developing digital assessment tools, exploring partnerships with content providers, and leading capacity-building initiatives for teachers and school leaders. This position is crucial for integrating digital tools into teaching and learning processes, thereby enhancing educational outcomes for Palestine refugees.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Digital Education Officer will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including:
Supporting the implementation of digital blended learning strategies in UNRWA schools, ensuring alignment with educational objectives and global best practices.
Collaborating with education staff to design and implement effective blended and online learning experiences.
Updating digital resources to align with curriculum standards and evaluating their effectiveness.
Developing and implementing digital assessment tools to monitor pedagogy practices and measure student progress.
Leading capacity-building initiatives for teachers and school principals in digital pedagogy and leadership.
Establishing monitoring mechanisms to assess the impact of digital integration and provide ongoing support for teachers.
Identifying best practices in digital education and facilitating knowledge sharing across schools.
Supporting the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks for digital learning initiatives and contributing to reporting on the state of digital education in UNRWA.
Performing other relevant duties as assigned to ensure the effective implementation of the ICT4E strategy and the education program.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first university degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) in digital transformation in education, digital education, educational technologies, or a related field. Additionally, candidates should have at least three years of professional experience in digital education, particularly in developing digital learning resources and implementing capacity-building programs for in-service teachers. A strong knowledge of digital teaching tools, educational technologies, and digital learning management systems is essential. Proven experience in designing and implementing capacity-building initiatives for teachers, particularly in digital education, is also required. Familiarity with emerging technologies in education, such as AI and gamification, is advantageous. Proficiency in MS-Office and Microsoft for Education is necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a first university degree (bachelor’s or equivalent) in fields related to digital transformation in education, digital education, educational technologies, or similar disciplines. This foundational education is critical for understanding the complexities of digital pedagogy and the integration of technology into educational settings.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in digital education, with a focus on digital learning resources and materials. Candidates should have experience in implementing capacity-building programs for in-service teachers, demonstrating a strong understanding of digital teaching and learning tools. Experience with emerging technologies in education is also necessary, as is a proven track record in designing and implementing effective educational programs.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in English and Arabic is mandatory, with both languages required at UN Level III. This includes the ability to read, write, listen, and speak effectively in both languages. Knowledge of French is considered an asset but is not mandatory. Candidates must demonstrate excellent communication skills in both English and Arabic, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
Additional Notes: The position is offered as a Limited Duration Contract (LDC), Band F, with an initial duration of one year and the possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability. The monthly basic salary starts at JOD 1,057.700, with additional benefits including compulsory medical insurance, 30 days of annual leave (pro-rated), family allowance (if applicable), sick leave, maternity leave, and paternity leave.
