The organization operates in 26 countries and employs around 3,200 individuals, including expatriates, national staff, and volunteers. SI has been active in Ethiopia since 2023, following its official registration in December 2022, and is currently implementing projects in regions affected by the Tigray war, specifically in Tigray and Amhara, where humanitarian needs remain high due to ongoing tensions and challenges.

Job Overview:
The Field Coordinator (FC) serves as the representative of Solidarités International in the field, tasked with proposing strategies that are tailored to the humanitarian and geopolitical context. The FC is responsible for ensuring that projects are implemented in accordance with the organization's charter and procedures. This role involves coordinating teams, overseeing their safety, managing material and financial resources, and supervising recruitment and staff well-being. The FC also liaises with local authorities, NGOs, and other humanitarian actors, ensuring effective communication and high-quality reporting. Monitoring the local context is crucial for guiding programs, ensuring their relevance and coherence, and contributing to reports, donor communications, and funding applications. The FC is expected to uphold the ethics and values of Solidarités International throughout their work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Field Coordinator's duties include representing SI in the field, developing and implementing strategies that align with the humanitarian context, coordinating project teams, ensuring the safety of staff, managing resources effectively, and overseeing recruitment processes. The FC is responsible for maintaining communication with local authorities and other stakeholders, ensuring that information flows smoothly and that reporting standards are met. Additionally, the FC must monitor the local context to adapt programs as necessary, ensuring that they remain relevant and effective. The FC will also be tasked with ensuring compliance with security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security protocols, particularly in a challenging environment where access to various locations may be restricted. The first few months will involve setting up the team, initiating project activities based on assessments, and creating synergies with other actors in the area.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a master’s degree or equivalent field experience in Humanitarian Action, International Development, Social Sciences, Project Management, or a related field. A minimum of five years of experience in the humanitarian sector is required, with at least three to four years in a similar position. Relevant management skills are essential, including leadership, communication, problem-solving, decision-making, time management, adaptability, and organizational abilities. A strong understanding of finance and logistics processes is also necessary.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a master’s degree or equivalent experience in relevant fields such as Humanitarian Action, International Development, Social Sciences, or Project Management. This educational foundation is crucial for understanding the complexities of humanitarian work and effectively managing projects in challenging environments.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of five years of experience in the humanitarian sector, with three to four years specifically in a similar role. This level of experience is essential for navigating the complexities of humanitarian operations and effectively leading teams in the field.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of local languages, particularly Amharic, is considered a strong asset, as it can facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

  • The role is based in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, where the security situation is monitored closely due to ongoing conflicts. The salary for this position starts at EUR 3,080 gross per month, which includes a base salary and an annual leave allowance. Additionally, a monthly per diem of USD 400 is provided, along with coverage for accommodation and travel expenses. Expatriates will also benefit from a comprehensive insurance package that covers healthcare expenses, including medical and surgical costs, dental care, and repatriation. Breaks are scheduled every three months, with an allowance for rest days and a break allowance provided. Living conditions include shared guesthouse accommodations, with limited social life and dining options in the project area.
